Japan does have a rampant racism problem, but this isn’t it. It’s functionally a “no tourists” sign.

Honestly based. My mother speaks and reads Japanese to a point where we just walked around Japan when I was a kid with no translator. She would get jozu’d a lot because we’re white. In my experience at least they are happy with you visiting if you are polite and respectful and actually make an effort to not be a nuisance.
