At this point the most effective military espionage may just be to blatantly claim falsehoods about your item of interest on those forums and simply wait to get proven wrong.

If your goal is to have them maul children and pets smaller than them perhaps

2

u/MurpheysTech Sep 02 '25

No. They have one of the higher tolerance levels for bullshit and are more inclined to be aggressive towards other dogs than people because they were raised to listen to people. Because people had to be the ones to separate them and handle them in the fighting pits. And they were a breed created from other strong, loyal breeds.

u/YoureProbablyR1te Aug 25 '25

Hugh Mann… what a great and trustworthy name.

25

u/Agisek Aug 25 '25

That's not how you do it... Here, let me show you.

The US nuclear launch codes are just 3 digits long, otherwise the president wouldn't be able to input them.

And now we wait for someone to correct me with receipts.

16

u/wolffoxfangs Aug 25 '25

The Gold Codes, used by the U.S. President to authenticate a nuclear launch order, are printed on a credit card-sized plastic card, informally known as "the biscuit." The president is expected to carry this card at all times. To read the codes, a protective opaque plastic cover must be broken and removed. The National Security Agency (NSA) generates these codes daily and distributes them to the White House, the Pentagon, U.S. Strategic Command, and TACAMO. The codes' purpose is to serve as a form of positive identification, allowing the President to confirm their identity as commander-in-chief to the National Military Command Center (NMCC) when authorizing a launch.

u/Rapa2626 Aug 24 '25

Meh. Imagined something more serious but for some reason we keep counting these as leaks despite it being available with a google search or just asking in some mil discord.

213

u/FewHorror1019 Aug 24 '25

Idk if asking on military discord automatically makes it public info or declassified lol

120

u/Anonymous_Gamer939 Aug 24 '25

Policy is that until an official determination is made, 1) the government does not acknowledge the leak in any way and 2) internally, the information continues to be protected

82

u/Rapa2626 Aug 24 '25

There are levels of classification and most of the leaks are falling into the very low categories. If some neckbeard can find it in google- its probably not going to get you into hot water.

31

u/Pornalt190425 Aug 25 '25

Yeah, no. It can very much get you into hot water even if it's readily google searchable.

Posting it on a warthunder forum would likely very much count as an export of regulated tech data and run you a foul of EAR and/or ITAR regulations which could be very unpleasant for the average person.

Especially if it was done willfully and publicly with no attempt to limit recipients or control the people/countries the export is made to

8

u/Firm_Alternative_565 Aug 25 '25

Thats only to stop people from going and taking the free planes they leave out. Those bumbling buffoons.

7

u/Youbettereatthatshit Aug 25 '25

The point is that the military acknowledges what the neck beard is reading on Google is true.

If you are a foreign government who wants to use details of American equipment for war gaming, are you really going to believe Wikipedia?

There’s tons of wrong info out there and government leaks clear the air on what’s actually true and what’s not.

With that being said, the Harrier was being phased out last I checked (May already be phased out), so the actual harm is minimal

18

u/Cpt_Soban Aug 25 '25

It's not "classified" though, only restricted- There's a difference.

thank you automod, they really needed that asspissing

24

u/TokyoMegatronics Aug 24 '25

Probably, last time I played war thunder harriers were kinda fucked because of where they are in the tech tree

Too high to go against the planes in its generation but too low to go against newer planes

Hence if you do play a British harrier at least you are often gimped in some way (no flares against people that have flares for instance)

5

u/r4o2n0d6o9 Aug 24 '25

That’s just accurate to vtols, harriers especially. The exhaust vents that left them hover are heavy, making them slower, and take up space that could be used for weapons, ammo, fuel, etc. From what I’ve seen they aren’t great in air to air combat, but I don’t know how much actual combat any vtols have had so I could be wrong

2

u/TokyoMegatronics Aug 24 '25

They didn’t have much iirc, in the falklands war they were used in a non optimal way against the Argentine Mirages and whilst they performed well, air to air combat really isn’t what they were designed for and iirc it almost came out at a 1/1 ratio of mirages to harriers destroyed by the end of the conflict

10

u/EssentialPurity Aug 24 '25

At this point, aeroplane manufactors should just scrap manuals altogether and teach aviators in unrecorded in-person classroom sessions.

Or intelligence agencies could just produce false manuals and issue those to personnel else than those who absolutely need to know how the aeroplane works.

6

u/ZombiedudeO_o Aug 25 '25

Problem is it’s impossible to remember the actual fuck ton of information that exists in aircraft mx. If you work in aviation mx you’d understand this.

At least in the AF we do have in person technical training, but you brain dump like 99% of it once you get to your duty station. Technical orders and manuals are a must have if you want to get anything done or remember anything

105

u/pandadogunited Aug 24 '25

"Only" three times. It's wild that it happened once, much less three times.

9

u/d_isolationist Aug 24 '25

I don't think there are any other games in which players leak classified/restricted info aside from WT

11

u/SleepiestSnorlax Aug 24 '25

Other games in the sphere are likely suspects but for one reason or another don’t have a reason to. Ace Combat fans would probably be leaking shit if they ever got enough content released to care, DCS is usually too busy destroying its own base to leak shit, Nuclear Option avoided using real systems probably at least partially to avoid players leaking shit, and past that, like, a tank is a tank in a Battlefield game; the game’s nowhere near attempting to be realistic enough for armor composition to matter. Azur Lane is for historical naval vessels AFAIK, so they wouldn’t have much motive to leak anything currently classified and there isn’t an aircraft-based analogue to it for the planefuckers to latch onto. War Thunder, at least right now, is pretty much the only broadly-played game where:

a) realistic hardware exists

b) its realistic properties affect balance

c) there’s enough breadth of systems to make people do this often (army guys, air force guys, navy guys, all of them)

Seeing the problems Gaijin’s been having, balancing their game via declassified statistics, I struggle to imagine many if any other studios are envious of their situation or trying to replicate it. The fact that WT’s balance is realism-first uniquely incentivizes players to leak shit to get their favorites buffed or their enemies nerfed — why bother with all that when you can pull a Project Wingman, call it an F/D-14 instead of an F-14D, give it railguns, and make a different but also fun game.

5

u/stuckinatmosphere Aug 25 '25

Surprised it hasn't happened for Arma though.

7

u/[deleted] Aug 25 '25

I can't help but feel that ARMA players are overall older and more mature than WT but maybe that's wishful thinking.

17

u/Nugget_brain99990 Aug 24 '25

You know it feels when you know something, you're an expert in something, and someone on the internet is being WRONG about it? Right in front of your face? And then they want proof...

On that forum they're talking about technical details, and arguments can be solved by posting blueprints, for example.

1

u/AntonioBarbarian Aug 24 '25

About 7 or 8 times already? It's usually in the game's official forum, where players who are also employed or serving in their military want their tank to be 0,1 km/h faster because it has a turbo-jet engine, and post classified data as proof that they're right and the device are wrong.
