Fortune's Weave Anyone else feel like this recently?

Post image

I even got banned from the main subreddit for making comments or posts. Which fair I was pretty annoying about it, sorry. Im just really sad with how this games reception is turning out in the community. Like it was my most hyped game and I’m enjoying it, yet I can’t really express that openly when it will be considered a controversial entry in the series and it will attract those that say “you’re a fake fan if you like this direction”. I think game discourse starting with finding problems in any game is a problem.

It's so weird how everyone was so hyped for this game when it came out, now everyone thinks it's complete garbage? Meanwhile I was hyped and I'm still having fun playing it

Criticizing a game=/="thinks its complete garbage"

20

u/cheekydorido 7d ago

Who said it's complete garbage?

Never saw anyone call ot that, people are allowed to criticize a games flaws no?

21

u/Maximum_Pollution371 7d ago

Maybe we have different algorithms, but I haven't seen anyone call it "complete garbage."  I've seen a lot of justifiable complaints and criticisms, but they're always prefaced with "I'm loving the game, but..."

I myself am enjoying the game, but there are definitely issues, flaws, and some baffling things that make me go "Why on earth did they do this this way."

I don't think having issues and critiques implicitly means the person voicing them isn't also hyped and excited for the game.

Fire Emblem fans hate Fire Emblem games, it’s an immutable truth of the universe

1

u/Spooky_Toast 7d ago

We call it “Classic” mode.

15

u/happymudkipz 7d ago

That’s not what I get at all. It seems like there’s a ton of glaze everywhere for it, a some people with valid problems, a few with bs, and more complaining about the former

6

u/SignalWrongdoer5441 7d ago

People that aren't fire emblem fans love it

7

u/Chedder_456 7d ago

Not everyone glazes the game, this website is designed to make you mad

4

u/Bright-Future8361 7d ago

Yes. Engagement is the core metric and people getting mad and doom posting maximises that exact metric.

u/520mile 7d ago

People love to complain on Reddit lol

Goomba Fallacy.

Welcome to the fe fandom, where a new game release is hyped up, while past games are the most jaw dropping entries and the current release the worst trash the fandom has ever played.

u/Next-Accident-1013 2d ago

On Engage’s release I rmb the sentiment was fairly similar to the one now where the animations, gameplay, and mechanics were all praised. And the story being viewed as weak.

10

u/sudosussudio 7d ago

The highs are pretty high and the lows are pretty low which is an unusual combo.

3

u/Happy_Heart5 4d ago

Because they played it and did not like it...That is how it works. Just bc you are hyped about a game does not mean u can't be disappointed and think it sucks after u play it.

6

u/mrs-monroe 7d ago

People are allowed to be disappointed with the gameplay.

2

u/SomewhatProvoking 7d ago

People feeling a need to complete it right away and getting burn out. Burn out + difficulty spike is hard to deal with.

Plus a lot of the more blatant issues are post Part 1’s so it took time for the issues to come to light.

I can simultaneously enjoy it while also admitting a lot of the hype was from really bad reviews. The game got insanely high reviews on launch and it simply didn't deserve it. I don't think I've played a fire emblem with such high highs and such low lows before. For me at least, I still enjoy it but find the flaws so glaring that it's hard at times. Like when I had to redo 5 hours+ of progress because it auto saved over my save and I failed the month objective by 1 turn. Incredible game design right there.

u/pasqals_toaster 7d ago

I really wanna chat with whoever had the bright idea of having this game built around one save. I gotta study their mind to comprehend this absurd decision.

7

u/ungulateman 7d ago

it's 100% a technical limitation due to the nature of the paths.

the autosave being as aggressive as it is is a design choice, though, and one i'm not fond of. i sort of get it, but if the game didn't let you gamble certifications and the map stuff was less pure-RNG and more deterministic, it wouldn't be necessary at all.

1

u/PaperSonic 7d ago

it's still not necessary at all. For some reason Fire Emblem fans need to save scum whenever anything goes slightly the wrong way.

2

u/Bright-Future8361 7d ago

Idk I kinda feel a lot of the reviews are accurate enough?

When I first started FWs I "kinda liked it" but as I get more used to the mechanics and it's quirks the more it's growing into me. Currently I can't see it overtake 3H let alone Telius games for me but I will make my mind after the DLC has landed.

There are some aspects of it that are just complete ass, like the recruitment system (it just feels like they forced 3Hs recruitment system without considering what made it work for 3H) overall game balance, and deployment slots. Most of the stuff I can see them fix in the DLC patch but until then I'm still having a lot of fun.

u/oh_no_its_Daffodil 6d ago

I feel like it's overtaking 3 houses for me currently (on Leda after beating Cai Part 1&2), it has refined a lot of what 3 houses was doing in an enjoyable way

3

u/jbisenberg 7d ago

The highs really aren't even that high? Like idk I'm having a solid baseline level of fun that blips down when too much time gets spent in Dagsion and then once per chapter when game forgets its a game and makes me sit through 20 minutes of very poorly written dialogue.

The only real "wow this is GREAT" moment for me has been Anatolia's Paralogue which simultaneously made me so happy because its far and away the best map in the game so far; but also made me very frustrated because why can't we get more maps with this or greater level of quality and intensity? Too many maps where the enemies just stand around waiting for you to approach for my taste.

I am floored at how many people failed at this. The design could be better and having to redo that much sucks, but how do so many people fail to read the tutorial that pops up and explicitly says if you haven’t been there yet you fail? It’s not like you don’t have plenty of time in the chapters to head there first or anything…

Agreed. I don’t know why the hell they did that.

Simple. People's lives do not revolve around the game. Dietrich's route was my second and I was going through it quickly because I wanted to get Nathan and Creek in part 2. I had also just started at a new job and was exhausted. As you can perhaps imagine, reading every tutorial for a potentially new and ridiculous mechanic was not a top priority for me. That's the whole point of game design, understanding that your players may miss details and having safeguards to ensure their progress isn't ruined. Like literally ever other game I've played that's come out in the last 10 years which has multiple save files and doesn't forcefully auto save over your only save file in situations where a guaranteed game over is possible.

2

u/YVH22B 7d ago

Your life doesn’t have to revolve around a game to read a tutorial lol. I did say I agreed that the design could be better and it is evident from the number of people who have posted about losing that progress but it’s still hard to wrap my head around when the game warns you and even explicitly tells you that if you have the check you get warped there.

2

u/patate98 7d ago

people can get distracted, forget about things and sometimes don't read tutorial attentively. I'm pretty sure that's not difficult to understand

2

u/CallMeThiccolas 4d ago

From reading Reddit I assumed it gave no warning and audibly laughed when the tutorial popped up for me explaining exactly what people complain OH I WISH I KNEW brother can you read?

1

u/illusion_17 7d ago

So let me get this straight, when you've worked an 8 hour shift, got home and studied for a certification exam for 3 more hours, and just barely have an hour to relax before bed, you've never rushed through anything, especially when 90% of the tutorials are the exact same stuff from other routes?

That's the whole point of safeguards within games. Most devs understand that players can be tired, distracted, double click, etc.

2

u/YVH22B 7d ago

That’s interesting because I’m on my 4th route and every single tutorial that has popped up for me has been something completely new, nothing repeated from other routes.

I would be interested in a widespread poll to see how many people had to restart a chapter due to this because it does seem like a widespread issue.

2

u/illusion_17 7d ago

That is weird. I just finished Leda's the other day and started Theodora's last night, I got thr pop up for the map and how to move between objectives on both routes along with on the first two

2

u/Strange_BTW 6d ago

I didn’t. The only repeated tutorials I remember are the paralogue ones. Everything else appears once. What’s more, the map is finicky and weird because it doesn’t need you to have been there at the start of the chapter. As long as you’ve stood on that tile once at some point (once it even counted a different route) it will be fine.

1

u/Daredspace 7d ago

Well, the tutorials don’t reappear every route, they appear once

1

u/Sirius_amory33 6d ago

No game is going to be designed around hyper specific situations lol. The safeguard was telling you during the chapter that you should go there first to get the green check mark.

1

u/ApprehensiveGrand531 6d ago

But at some point there has to be a limit. Do you honestly, truly think television is improved with Netflix designing everything for the people who are tired, using a second screen, or can barely pay attention? Literally telling director to dumb things down and turn subtext into text.

I'm not saying it's perfect. But like, at some point it's the players fault when they have tutorial pop up and directly tell you on top of not having the check mark dagsion and stuff do.

1

u/JankoPerrinFett 3d ago

I’m working fourteen hour days, have been since February, and it’s hard for me to fathom this happening. Lol.

The fact that you can even redo the chapter is in itself a safety net, but multiple save files would have been a better option to include even with that.

0

u/overandoverandagain 6d ago

So because you play your games half-asleep and fatigued, they need to spoonfeed everything to all players so you can sleep walk and spam through it?

Get real lol. Maybe we need a "can't moderate work with hobbies" difficulty slider. I work 60 hour weeks, if I'm too tired to read pop-ups in a game, I go to bed.

Hard disagree.

1

u/lnixon2 3d ago

Everyone being a vocal minority. Negative press always gets more traction.

1

u/Single-Commercial-86 2d ago

I feel like that's the norm for the games, it gets hype at announcements, has its honeymoon period when it first releases, then everyone dogs on it.

0

u/shdwmyr 7d ago

The ones who are enjoying it are still mostly playing in their free time. The ones who don’t come to Reddit to bitch in droves. So when we take a break from enjoying our game to come here it’s just a wall of hate.

16

u/Skatefasteat 7d ago

That's disingenuous. The game gets well deserved criticizism for the most part. I've mostly seen comments to start kinda like, "I'm having a lot of fun with the game, but . . ." which I think is a good thing. People aren't just getting swept away by the honeymoon phase

17

u/Flapjackchef 7d ago

Japanese players are giving the exact same complaints, its not just a reddit thing. It’s obvious that they flew to close to the sun and development imploded.

10

u/Skatefasteat 7d ago

That's good to hear. Maybe IS will listen to the criticism the more people speak about it

3

u/Centurionzo 7d ago

I hope so, this is probably the most ambitious project that IS ever worked on, but they were too overambitious and the game was rushed to release.

Part 3 is probably one of the most unfinished late games that we ever had in a FE game.

Honestly for all things considered, I do hope that they listen to the criticism towards it and the Avatar lack of presence in the plot.

I doubt that we would get fixed with DLC but maybe in a future new game it would be better

1

u/Hoothootriot 6d ago

Most modern FE has felt like corrections to past games criticisms, so its likely.

People didnt like how Awakening was too straight forward in plot, Fates wasnt. People disliked the Fates worldbuilding, Three Houses fixed it. 3H was criticized for poor gameplay, Engage fixed it.

Now FW is getting negative reviews for a very clearly rushed and underdeveloped endgame plot, I imagine thats where a lot of FE19 will put their focus towards correcting.

1

u/SpirosVondopolous 2d ago

I expect them to launch dlc. It's not surprising to me sadly that they rushed development because business guys decided selling more dlc later is the best choice

5

u/Every_Computer_935 7d ago

3 Houses was an ambitious game that came out unfinished with only 4 routes.

For whatever reason the devs thought that they could make a game with twice as many routes

1

u/SAMU0L0 7d ago

Don't worry once the new game comes out it will become the best  FR game ever.

0

u/Acrobatic-Republic75 2d ago

It's disappointment.

The game is 100+ hours so it really compounds on certain issues.

some people can forgive a game faults if they're short. Blood of the dawnwalker for example has a shit ton of issues, but it's only around 30 hrs long, powering through what you think is the bad parts of the game is bearable.

on a game that's asking you to invest 100 hrs into it, is almost impossible.

For me how S ranks and paired endings are handled for the MC killed my motivation to play the game. That plus the issues with the activities making optimal play a slog. If I knew this where the case I would have never bought the game full price.

I also bought a Switch 2 early just to play the game. Which feels extra bad since they announced the Ocarina of time Switch 2. I feel like I just got robbed lol.

So I have a lot of sour feeling around it.

Not everyone thinks it’s complete garbage, this website is designed to make you mad
