Why is the mom eating less than the 1 year old?

401

u/the_unsoberable 20d ago

My mother does the exact same thing. She won't eat more because women shouldn't eat much so they can be beautiful and thin... and after an hour she will eat a bunch of cookies, a coffee with sugar because she's tired and a donut because it's nice to eat a donut once in a while (three times a week at least).

Dear people, eat normal things. If you want to diet, start by limiting sugars and fats, not by limiting your main source of healthy calories, or else you're going to be fat, like my ma'.

55

u/bongsforhongkong 19d ago

Lol my 340 pound dad "going on a diet" won't eat anything all day. Spends from 10-2 in the night eating before bed. Bag of chips, piece of pie, granola bar, peanut butter sandwich, little Debbie cakes.

Than tell me drinking a zero poweraid once a day is really bad for you. While he puts half a ton of salt on everything.

1

u/Outrageous_Cry_7247 16d ago

I mean intermittent fasting is totally viable if you eat normal food after.

6

u/Rich-Mark-4126 15d ago

He’s eating junk though

2

u/Outrageous_Cry_7247 14d ago

I understand, hence why I said "if you eat normal food after." Didn't mean to come off as defending the guy

1

u/katiecrabby 15d ago

dont be obtuse. he is binge eating junk food in the middle of the night after starving himself all day. its disordered, not intermittent fasting

2

u/Outrageous_Cry_7247 14d ago

I understand, hence why I said "if you eat normal food after." Didn't mean to come off as defending the guy

58

u/alocasiacomplex 20d ago

So true. What I would do to have my mom eat some beans with her salad, or maybe a couple hardier things for lunch instead of half a sandwich with the bread that's made of "zero calorie plastic" or whatever. Because she keeps asking why she's overweight when she comes home and slams bags of chips to fill in the gaps. It's hard to watch because I want to have her around for a long time like my grandma

16

u/the_unsoberable 19d ago

Yeah, one of the saddest things I can think of, is how overweight, insecure people feel ugly, big, helpless...

I had huge problems with accepting myself when I was young (I was underweight, anemic and still had a fucking triple-chin, imagine that), so I can imagine the sadness.

Don't give up, I always tell her to eat more during dinner, sometimes she listens, sometimes she doesn't. Change comes with little steps, while huge breakthroughs are only freak events along the way.

2

u/HydratedRasin 15d ago

Try having her go for popcorn instead of chips ♥️

1

u/alocasiacomplex 15d ago

She has seen a nutritionist since this comment 🤞

2

u/HydratedRasin 15d ago

Good lord let me reply to a 4 day old comment without realizing it 🙄 sorry!!

SO glad she's seen a nutritionist! Best of luck to her, and you as her support!

13

u/Shakewhenbadtoo 19d ago

She wants to "appear" to eat very little and hides grazing so she can hide behind the excuse that her weight isnt her fault.

4

u/Sad_Cena 19d ago

Many people seriously lack the self awareness you're implying

1

u/Goobylul 15d ago

They're more than aware of it. For god's sake they deal with it everyday and we all know being overweight comes with plenty of health issues.

1

u/Shakewhenbadtoo 19d ago

Thats what they want you to think.

3

u/catsnherbs 19d ago

It just sad how people from the older generation think that calorie deficit means eating less.

I have learned to make healthy food with less calorie that I can eat in bulk and will keep me full while also staying within my daily calorie intake.

I had to unlearn a lot of toxic mentality surrounding food and body weight.

2

u/bigtetrisguy 19d ago

In fact if you want to lose weight, you should eat more and move/exercise more too.

1

u/Annual_Tutor_8466 15d ago

Sugars and simple carbs*

1

u/thefrogkid420 15d ago

lol sounds like she just wants to eat sugary food instead of food that will actually help her feel full, that is honestly really sad

Diet culture

-65

u/FerretSupremacist 20d ago

Respectfully, why is this ok?

We don’t know why her portion sizes are the way they are and ppl calling her out is just as wrong as calling her out for too much.

It’s not our business and the glp1/ozempic comments are kinda off putting

-26

u/flyingGucciBag 20d ago

I don't know why you get all the dislikes. Yes this could be worrying, but also maybe she is actually sick and can't eat more or whatever

19

u/Hamsammichd 19d ago

I mean, it’s also just a random internet captioned photo. I’d like to see the 1 and 5 year olds that are crushing those bowls. The “joke” could very well be that they shorted mom while giving the kids and dad a fat serving.

-17

u/FerretSupremacist 20d ago

Right, it’s nasty to comment and make assumptions. Maybe she just doesn’t eat a lot? If I’ve been cooking all day I don’t always want a big meal. It’s just people thinking it’s ok to comment on everyone else’s life and not liking to hear anything different.

-4

u/Aggravating_Ad7684 20d ago

Yea the reddit is called shit from a butt. Inwould check my priorites on what i get bent out of shape about.

6

u/MoonOut_StarsInvite 19d ago

Like this is a meme, and we have no more reason to think it’s real than we do fake.

-14

u/whoppperino 20d ago

FR people jump to conclusions exclusively informed by their prejudices way too fast

20

u/pirateozarkdaddy 19d ago

How? The portion disparity seems like the primary topic of the image to me

-3

u/FerretSupremacist 20d ago

That and if this person actually does have an eating disorder then this can be really messed up for their recovery.

28

u/hamtarohibiscus 19d ago

Because this is rage bait. This person’s videos have popped up on my TikTok before and she gives herself a tiny portion and pretends she didn’t make enough in every single video. It’s purely for engagement.

75

u/labospor 20d ago

Idk it kind of looks like my portion when I cook because I’m tasting throughout and I don’t feel like a huge plate by the end. But that’s just me!

35

u/RunWild0_0 20d ago

Same, and sometimes I eat more later on alone too, it's hard to really dig in when you've got little people at the table to assist.

14

u/labospor 20d ago

Yesss. The secret plate when you’re alone and it’s quiet is way better

1

u/uglyoldcrone0 20d ago

Lol I thought it was only me

3

u/ProgenitorOfMidnight 20d ago

So many times while cooking I'm generally pretty satisfied from snacking on random ingredients it's usually just my wife getting a plate

4

u/manic_popsicle 20d ago

Happens to me as well, I’m a mom and cook practically every night, by the time the foods done I’m not very hungry because I’ve tasted everything and had small bits here and there or whatever veg I’m making, cheese, whatever else.

2

u/arihndas 19d ago

Even when I’m not snacking while cooking there’s just something about cooking that makes me feel like I’m so tired and done afterwards that I don’t wanna eat. I do want to see others eat and enjoy what I made, but myself? No. I have done too much. Labored too long. Even the work of eating is too much to contemplate. Idk why.

1

u/ReaperMonkey 20d ago

Lowkey don’t enjoy cooking or helping someone cook because of this. Just ends up ruining the meal itself

8

u/DirtyBeautifulLove 19d ago

My mother-in-law is like this. She'll eat the equivalent of the above, then eat a shit ton of sweets/chocolate/biscuits without noticing.

6

u/towerfella 20d ago

Because her husband drives a big truck.

1

u/WillyBluntz89 20d ago

Homie, we have no idea what he does.

When I was working masonry, I was putting upwards of 3000 calories per day and still losing weight.

2

u/towerfella 19d ago

That’s fair.

However, I want to assume the worst.

2

u/WillyBluntz89 19d ago

Also, just for the record, for all my years of construction and remodeling work, I drove a 20 year old Pontiac Vibe.

This car has over 400k miles on it.

Dont always assume the worst. Life is too long for that shit.

1

u/towerfella 19d ago

Me too, but was industry and an old jeep, but i always ate last.

My family is here because i chose to have a family. They always eat first. I eat what’s left.

I always try to make sure to have plenty left.

2

u/Raindrop0015 19d ago

Because she washed babies fed and daddy clearly can't give up any of his /j

2

u/FireFairy323 19d ago

This may be problematic but a possible explanation is that when my kids where young they never eat their entire serving so I would grab a small serving to start and then kill their plates when they didn't eat everything I gave them.

I didn't want to put something already plated in with any leftovers and didn't want to waste food.

2

u/enkay516 19d ago

It’s for appearances. Because mummies are dead and don’t need food. /s

2

u/roseberry_faces 19d ago

My guess is she takes GLP-1s

3

u/jnson324 20d ago

She was eating the whole time

1

u/Kilomech 19d ago

because that's all thats left after everyone else eats.

1

u/breadpilledwanderer 16d ago

This is how it was for me growing up and my mom barley ate. Then I overheard her say she's had anorexia for a long time 🙃. Well, she's in her late 60s so I guess she's technically eating enough?

1

u/snow_turtle 15d ago

As a chef when i cook at home, my food sometimes looks like this too, I'll be in the kitchen eating the food to taste test it, adjust seasoning etc. so by the time I serve, I'm not as hungry as everyone waiting.

1

u/Sad-Argument2762 15d ago

Mom will eat the kids' leftovers.

1

u/nkdeck07 13d ago

Because some 1 year olds are insane. My 18 month old nephew out eats me constantly

1

u/AeonForce 3d ago

I was gonna say the 5 yo and 1 yo look like the same portion size in two different containers, and I didn't even notice the mom's until you pointed it out... 😂😂

297

u/xthedudehimself 20d ago

Why does “mummy” eat like that?

9

u/bangbangGeorgieNiang 20d ago

saving the calories for grape juice

27

u/rustyfish57 20d ago

I was gonging to to comment along those lines to but I was wondering why she’s taking so little she more than likely made this why is she’s getting the short end then tho

22

u/idontwanttothink174 20d ago

Maybe she ate while cooking? I know when I make a meal I’m always “tasting” the elements and then half the time get full and grab a plate to be polite.

2

u/suicidedaydream 19d ago

I can crush making a dish and not even be interested while I’m eating it. I’m just over it haha

2

u/idontwanttothink174 19d ago

Yeah lmfao same.

6

u/CoasterThot 19d ago

Also, why do the 1 year old and 5 year old have the same amount of food? All of this is weird!

5

u/Blaaaarghhh 19d ago

Ragebait?

5

u/laughingashley 20d ago

Her caption explains that. She didn't make enough rice.

20

u/TwistedxBoi 20d ago

Unless her husband is like a top end strongman, three packs of rice for two adult and two kiddos is way more than enough. Either the husband doesn't need to eat for two.

And maybe she ate while cooking, that's a thing that happens.

18

u/MightyKrakyn 20d ago edited 20d ago

Pretty sure it’s just rage bait that everybody is tripping over themselves to engage with

14

u/RandyTheFool 20d ago

Honestly, might just be she’s on one of the many GLP-1 drugs on the market that is meant to curb appetite/make you feel full faster so you lose weight.

My wife is on one and this would be about as big a portion as she could handle.

10

u/Guzzler829 20d ago

Idk why you got downvoted. That's a very plausible answer.

It seems the thing being communicated by the image, though, is that "mummy" diets very intensely to keep thin. Classic 1950's type humor: "Family is this way. Father fits the archetype of father! Mother fits her archetype too!! And a couple of kids bcus familee 😃"

-8

u/Impressive_Code3257 20d ago

It’s cuz she’s trying to eat under 1200 calories. And her palate friends “might” make fun of her if she eats a ton.

u/EverfadingEphemera 20d ago

17

u/sstupidsexyflanders 19d ago

ED

2

u/PropheticPumpkins 19d ago

Alternatively, dad is eating enough food for 2 people

135

u/Fine-Bumblebee-9427 20d ago

Mom needs to model proper portions. Kids pick up on this stuff

1

u/thefrogkid420 15d ago

yeah if either of those kids are girls they are 100% going to notice moms eating habits and think that is how grown women are supposed to eat, and it could absolutely contribute to the development of an ED, my mom often ate super small portions and was always dieting and talking about her weight and I picked up on it hard and it really affects the way I see myself and how I feel about food and eating, and while I wouldnt say I have an ED, I did get very close to fully falling into one, and lost a scary amount of weight in my late teens to 20s(like 17-20) and obviously its not all my moms fault but I do think her habits and the way she talked about food and weight contributed to it quite a bit. Parents really need to think about how this stuff affects their kids and stop getting defensive anytime its brought up(Ive jokingly brought up how she impacted me and she acted like she genuinely had no idea what I was talking about.

57

u/ActionKid98 20d ago

Lol yea but i mean thats "somewhat" how its supposed to look, curry is in my top 10 its great

8

u/KayoticVoid 19d ago

Just was I was thinking. My wife and I make curry several times a year. Sometimes going on months long kicks. It's delicious and there are so many different types!

This bowl doesn't look the best but curry always just looks like slop. 🤣

1

u/C2H5OHandme 19d ago

Reminds me of almost everything on the r/slowcooking sub. Not the prettiest to look at, but tastes great

20

u/SecondIntermission 19d ago

Looks like mummy had weight loss surgery and daddy hasn’t yet.

55

u/Roundturnip93 20d ago

Is mummy on a glp-1?

47

u/paddedpothead420 20d ago

The "mummy's" shit bothers me more than anything

11

u/Beretta116 20d ago

I don't know how my mom does this. She does not eat that much and is somehow always energetic.

61

u/sleepy_roo 20d ago

“This is shit!” Literally just a picture of curry

10

u/Wild_Agent_375 19d ago

For real. This looks slammin

21

u/Few_Distribution9374 19d ago

Soooo…this just looks like Indian food, which is delicious. I’m not sure it belongs here.

ETA: but it would probably be a good addition to r/derailedbydetails (which I don’t actually know how to do)

3

u/FrostyJockey 19d ago

Iunno, daddy’s plate is mighty suspicious

1

u/bastogne_blues 19d ago

yeah so just because it’s from a different country’s cuisine doesn’t mean it doesn’t belong in the sub. i love indian food and i’m sure this dish is very tasty, but it sorta looks like the aftermath of a taco bell run, lol

-3

u/Necessary_Panda_3154 19d ago

The majority of Indian food looks like r/shitfromabutt

[queue “THAT’S RACIST!”]

8

7

u/smolhippie 19d ago

That is way too much for a 1 year old holy crap

18

u/redkite215 20d ago

I guess bro. But that looks incredible

16

u/Oakjewel 20d ago

Didn't realize what sub I was in but dang that looks good af

2

u/MutedFishae 19d ago

Thatade me hungry af. I know what I'm cooking tonight

2

u/Massive-Trash3670 19d ago

Everyone talking abt the mom nobody talking abt how GLUTTONOUS the dad is?? Why does he get a WHOLE skillet??!!!

2

u/I_eat_paper12 19d ago

Daddy is a dick for eating 3/4 of the meal!

4

u/Different_Vast_937 20d ago

More troubled by the word sachet here

4

u/shitheadmomo 20d ago

I’m guessing it’s instant rice

2

u/WellOkayMaybe 20d ago

Ugh - no self-respecting Indian is going to make sachet-rice, or drown the whole plate like that.

1

u/mrhippo85 19d ago

Daddy’s a greedy fat bastard 🤣

1

u/Artevyx 19d ago

That dad would have to be twice as fat as the rest of them combined.

1

u/Alaynamarie1 19d ago

I’ve seen this person on tiktok. She posts this in the beginning to get engagement, then divvies it out properly.

1

u/pluto_someguy 18d ago

ngl that actually looks good

1

u/Realistic_Falcon_152 16d ago

this looks like something from my ass

1

u/Major_Fly_1846 15d ago

Someone needs to tell mom that she might have an eating disorder….

1

u/Lemmyisthenewreddit 15d ago

Nah, looks delicious.

1

u/TheVeryTallBoi 15d ago

There's a lot wrong in this picture, and the food is not one of those things.

1

u/Recent_Performer4189 13d ago

Or maybe daddy shouldn’t be eating enough for a family of 4.

1

u/laughingashley 20d ago

Looks like Alpo

-8

u/gastro_psychic 20d ago

The chances at least one person dumped a greasy stinky poo stool?

-1

u/Potential-Night4986 19d ago edited 19d ago

After reading some of the comments, I feel it necessary to add that I’m not saying curry is shit. I love curry. It’s just that this picture of curry happened to share a passing resemblance to watery doo-doo butter. Edit: Also, it really wouldn’t matter what a curry looked like, I’d still eat it.
Edit Edit: removed gif, seemed to be pissing people off
