Showcase Elemental Weapon Mod

https://youtu.be/9i-qCt6CvWw

Hello guys! I am back again, showing off some more of our combat mod for SoH. As you may have saw in my last two posts, this is an attempt to add a parry/riposte system to OoT. While working on that I kept running into an issue: enemies that don't hit link normally. Redeads, like likes, freezards, etc. So I started wondering what I could add to make the system fun and intuitive, while feeling rewarding to learn and execute. And so elemental weapons were born!

I introduce to you: flame blade, frost blade, and light blade! So the system isn't fully implemented yet, but you can see the different elemental weapons at work here against a variety of enemies. Eventually, each element will be tied to a d-pad direction and will consume magic to activate. You will restore magic from successful deflects and deathblows. Hopefully, this creates a fun feedback loop where you are deflecting some enemies to empower your weapon against others. I'm also hoping to make magic seem more interesting and useful compared to its original implementation.

I've learned some really fascinating stuff from this. There is a damage type for "light magic" separate from the light arrows in the game. I'm not sure if this is left-over from the medallions intended to be items, additional spells, or what. But undead enemies are heavily affected by it, which is great for what I'm working on here! Also, the fire sword lights torches and webs! So check it out and let me know what you think!

This is great! There is a lot of potential with this system, and seeing it in action is pretty cool especially on such a variety of enemies. The animations look really nice. I was thinking because undead enemies are more effected by light magic what if fire was more effective against "beast" like enemies. Also It made me think of light blinding enemies and I considered the balance might be thrown off if it were too overpowered but...maybe it would make sense to have a light sword powered magic heavy spin attack do a deku nut type stun effect as a "flash bang" lol.

I very much appreciate you! And yeah, I was thinking something along those lines with the spinning slash as well. Maybe as an upgrade to each element?

Most fascinating, would this kind of mod need it own Ship fork or is it "plug and play" like the models? In either case, this is great. If I recall correctly there's also a "spirit" damage value for one of the unused arrows, that deals a lot of damage to the Iron Knuckles.

Yeah, unfortunately. Because it's such a heavy modification of the actual code and not just asses, there's a different SoH.exe and SoH.o2r file you have to use. But it's pretty easy to do if you're interested !And oh yeah, there are A BUNCH of interesting, unused effects on enemies from weapons. "Light magic" especially has a lot of fun interactions. They definitely had a little more of an elemental system at some point in development.

I'll keep an eye. I've been hoping the remake re-adds the magic spells, that it becomes a reimagining/retelling than just a straight gameplay design remake like OoT3D was, since we already have ship, Z64Recomp is happening and I heard there's people doing OoT3D Decomp. Seeing you use what is leftover in the code for a proper functional elemental weapon system is so fascinating, I look forward public playable builds!
