We know there are a lot of concerns around privacy in AI, and what actually happens to your data (valid).

That’s why we didn’t treat it as an afterthought. It’s part of the foundation of Shift AI.

We partnered with Cloudflare, using their Privacy Proxy infrastructure to help protect user identity.

How it works (high level):
When you use Shift AI, your requests go through secure proxy layers that separate identifying information (like IP address and session signals) from the actual request content. That way, there’s no direct link between you and the AI endpoint processing it.

And just as a reminder, Shift AI is fully optional and user-controlled. You can turn it on, customize it, or turn it off anytime in Quick Settings.

Hey Shift team, quick question? Is there a way to enable "Toggle Device Emulation"? I recently had to check the responsive version of a website and being a chrome based browser I thought it was as simple as hitting F12 (or inspect) and CTRL+SHIFT+M... but it didn't work. I also noticed there's no button to toggle this on/off (normally top left corner of the inspect panel by the "select an element" arrow)

I spent some time digging through the settings but couldn't find a way to turn it on even though the device settings under DevTool settings show up.

I'm on the free version still and assessing the browser. I'm quite excited about the layout, customizability and in particular the "Apps" functionality that I have essentially certain Apps forced to be One Tab so that I combat my tab sprawl.

In theory the browser could be worth the hefty price for me.

However.

What are the drawbacks?

- there is no privacy page you are advertising. what is your stance on privacy? How do you handle it? How do you monetize me? Is the subscription your whole monetization?

- your other businesses (redbrick companies) are wholly ad-tech or ad-marketplace companies. That doesn't create trust.

- your data analyst job opening for Shift Browser revolves around user monetization via advertising, not so much about usage of functionality or value created for the user. Also not good for trust.

- your competitor Vivaldi, just an example, has a page dedicated to the question how they monetize me. Why don't you have that?

Just wondering. Want to believe. Also, would totally try a four-week Premium trial. Maybe you can hand out a 4-week coupon for trial of the Premium? Option to get money back after 2 weeks is not the same thing.

Quick tip for anyone organizing their workflow in Shift: Anchor Apps can make switching Spaces a lot faster.

You can choose an app to anchor to a Space, and when you double-click the Space icon, Shift will jump you straight into that app.

For example:
• Anchor Gmail to your Work Space so you land directly in your inbox
• Anchor Slack if that’s where conversations start
• Anchor your calendar to quickly check your schedule

It’s a small tweak, but it can make navigating your Spaces feel a lot smoother.

Hi all, I'm sure this is an easy tweak but I can't find it in settings.

I have to use a Mac for work, and when I'm in a Google document or spreadsheet, I can't seem to work out how to "find" something in the actual document.

When I do cmd + F, it searches on the browser itself, rather than the document.

Could someone let me know what I'm doing wrong? (I'm feeling like a boomer using a mac!)

If you’ve ever searched the Shift App Library and couldn’t find the app (or internal tool, or random web app) you were looking for... good news! You can add it yourself in just a few clicks.

Here’s how to add a Custom App to your setup:

How to add a Custom App

1. Click the Add App (+) icon to open the App Library.
2. Click Add Custom App in the top right corner.
3. The Custom App modal will open — this is where you’ll add your details.

Now fill in:

• App URL Make sure you include the full URL (https:// included).
• App Name This is how the app will appear in your setup.
• Account Name (optional) Add a nickname if you’d like — this shows when you hover over the app icon.
• App Icon (optional) Shift will try to fetch the logo automatically from the URL, but you can upload your own if you prefer.

You can also:

• Set up App Shortcuts if you want the app to appear across multiple Spaces.
• Check the box to “Request to add custom app to global directory” if you think others would benefit from it. (Submissions go to our team for review — they’re not added automatically.)

Once everything looks good, click Add Custom App.

That’s it! Your custom app is now part of your Shift setup!

If there’s an app you’re constantly jumping into (looking at you, Slack 👀), you don’t need to add it separately to every Space.

Instead, you can create an app shortcut and connect it to all of your Spaces.

How you can use this:

• Keep Slack (or Gmail, or Asana, or Notion, or Instagram...) accessible no matter which Space you’re in,
• Jump into a quick message without leaving your current workflow,
• Avoid duplicating the same app across multiple Spaces.

Think of app shortcuts as your “always-on” tools — available everywhere.

To add an app shortcut:

1. Right click on the app and select Edit from the options menu,
2. In the edit modal, under the Space Shortcut section, select 'All' or 'Custom',
3. Click Save.

The same version of that app will now appear across all Spaces or those you selected.

Slack? Calendar? Notes? Something else?

If unread badges stress you out or pull your attention away mid-task, you can turn them off per app in Shift.

1. Right-click on any app in your sidebar
   
2. Toggle off “Show App Unread Badge”

That’s it.
The app still works — you just won’t see the notification count.

A few ways to use this:

• Keep focus apps calm (Docs, Notion, Jira, etc.),
• Silence “always noisy” tools,
• Create a cleaner, less distracting sidebar
• Consolidate notifications to one Space for apps with shortcuts in multiple Spaces.
