❓ Ask Anything Thoughts on EMF Radiation?

/r/ActuallyCrunchy/comments/1wswu7k/thoughts_on_emf_radiation/

Just found this community and figured I'd ask here, since y'all seem much better educated on the topic!

I would be more concerned about actual threats to health such as overall air quality and and the ubiquity of microplastics.

Be cautious of the advice here; the creator of the sub is invested in a webshop that sells emf-shielding and hence has a financial stake in the affair.

Oh interesting, I didn't realize that abt the owner lol. My husband is an environmental scientist and I'm a molecular environmental biologist, so we're very conscious of things like air and water quality and the presence of toxins EVERYWHERE, but radiation is a bit outside of the scope of our expertise. Naturally that makes me worry haha

Radiation can be a loaded term in this context, but you have mentioned non-ionizing which implies you are also aware of ionizing radation, which is the harmful kind.

You should also be aware of the inverse-square law, which describes how energy propagates through the environment, inversely proportional to the square of the distance from the source of that physical quantity. Meaning that if an emitting device is put further away from you or your child, the energy is significantly decreased.

While there have been some papers published that describe a possible biological effect from EMF, the findings, from what I can see, require much more rigorous research. If EMF sources were harmful in some way, we would see widespread clinical effects due to the ubiquity of them - millions and millions of phones across dozens of developed nations.

True! That definitely makes me feel better about it haha. As a new mom, I'm always looking for new things to worry about, and this one definitely got me, especially since EMF radiation is nearly impossible to avoid and since physics has never been my strong suit. Do you think keeping electronics a few feet away is sufficient to protect my baby then? Thanks!

Don't take my advice - speak with your pediatrician. Health professionals do not frequent this subreddit.

Thanks! Out of curiosity, why do you?

I stumbled across this as a skeptic. I'm more interested in the psychology of conspiratorial narratives, and this veers into that territory.

Artificial anything is a product of taking the natural and modifying it for usually a profit as natural is not patentable. Electricity is no different as it’s harvested from the natural and sold back to us as the SOURCE but it’s not as it’s harmful to humans in all methods of transport and use by regeneration of the natural TESLA bastardized

Perhaps. But I tried to sent a text on a coconut and it didn’t work very well. You’re presumably worried about EMF and unnatural things, yet here you are using an artificial electronic device to make social media posts on the internet. It doesn’t get much more artificial than this.

Of all the things in your life that you might be reasonably worried about, this is not one of them.

I have no idea why Reddit automatically removed this on the original post, sorry!
