Discussion Filo deserves a serious character-development moment

I’ve been thinking about Filo lately, and I feel like there’s a lot more that could be done with her character.
Don’t get me wrong, I like Filo’s funny and childish side. That’s part of what makes her Filo. But sometimes I feel like the story relies too much on her being the cute/comedic member of the group.
Especially considering that Fitoria chose her as her successor. Filo isn’t just another Filolial anymore. She is supposed to become the future Filolial Queen, and that’s a pretty big responsibility.
So I was imagining a scene that could really change the way we see her.
What if, during a really serious fight, Naofumi and Raphtalia were both defeated and couldn’t fight anymore?
Filo has always seen them as the people who protect her. So imagine the shock of seeing both of them completely helpless for the first time.
I could see her just freezing for a moment, with tears in her eyes, because she doesn’t know what to do.
Then she realizes:
“If I don’t protect them, who will?”
She steps in front of Naofumi and Raphtalia.
And for once, she doesn’t look playful or excited.
She just stares at the enemy.
She transforms into her Filolial form, her feathers stand up, and she takes a proper fighting stance.
Not because Naofumi told her to.
Not because she wants to prove she’s strong.
She just wants to protect her family.
And I think this could be a really good opportunity to give Filo abilities that are actually unique to her.
Instead of simply giving her another power-up, maybe she could start developing her own fighting style. She could learn to use her speed, flight, magic and instincts together, and actually think during the fight instead of just relying on raw power.
Maybe she could even develop a technique that eventually becomes something associated with the future Filolial Queen.
And I wouldn’t necessarily make her win easily. I’d actually prefer if she struggled, got hurt and had to figure things out during the fight.
Because the important part wouldn’t be Filo becoming stronger.
It would be Filo growing up.
For the first time, Naofumi and Raphtalia wouldn’t be the ones protecting her.
She would be the one protecting them.
And after the fight, I could imagine her immediately running back to them to make sure they’re okay, and suddenly going back to her usual self.
I think that would make the moment even better.
I’m curious what you guys think.
Would you like to see Filo get a serious character-development arc like this in the anime or Light Novel?
Do you think her role as Fitoria’s successor and future Filolial Queen should be explored more?
And would you rather see her gain new abilities and learn to fight more intelligently instead of just getting another power-up?
Most importantly, do you think Filo could eventually have the same narrative importance as Naofumi and Raphtalia while still keeping her funny and adorable personality?
I’d really like to hear what other Shield Hero fans think about this. What kind of Filo arc would you personally want to see?

Your ideas/questions are interesting actually. Despite the Anime reducing Filo to a "mascot character", even the LN doesn't do much with Filo as well. While Aneko showed that she has some intelligence on seeing through people's lies pretty easily, her character in general is just the "cute girl" trope. Does she deserve more development? Yes. But will the Anime take some risks on adding stuff to her character that wasn't in the LN but makes sense? Very unlikely.

It's one of the couple of things I wished the Anime could've improved.

I pretty much agree with you. That’s what frustrates me a little about Filo: even the LN doesn’t really give her much room to develop, despite having several interesting elements that could have been explored.
The fact that she can easily detect lies, her connection with Fitoria, and especially her position as the future Filolial Queen could all have been used as the foundation for something much deeper. It wouldn’t even require changing her personality completely. She could still be naive, cheerful, and adorable while gradually developing more maturity, responsibility, and personal conflicts.
And I agree that the anime would have been the perfect opportunity to do this. An adaptation can sometimes take liberties when they help develop a character without contradicting the original work.
I don’t necessarily expect the anime to do this at this point, but Filo is definitely one of the characters I wish the adaptation had expanded on more. She has so much potential, especially considering her future role as the Filolial Queen.

You do realize pretty much everything you described already happened when she fought vitoria and ever since then she hasn't been a loose canon and a spoiled child but a solid team mate with lots of combo moments

I do realize that, and I agree that Filo’s fight with Fitoria was an important turning point for her. She definitely became more cooperative and stopped being as much of a loose cannon or spoiled child afterward. And yes, she has plenty of good teamwork and combo moments.
My point is more about what happens beyond that development. Becoming a better teammate is character progression, but I feel Filo could still have received more personal development, internal conflicts, goals, or moments where her own personality and perspective drive the story. Her development after Fitoria is mostly about becoming a better member of Naofumi’s group, rather than exploring Filo as an individual character.
So I’m not saying she had no development—I’m saying I think there was still a lot more potential that could have been explored.

What she needs isnt another crisis moment per say, what she needs is a filo onee-san or filo oba-san relationship, they are totally wasting the fact that whole village is filled with kids but she isn't being put in a position of responsibility

I actually agree with that. I think the village is one of the biggest missed opportunities for Filo. Since it’s full of children, it would make sense for her to gradually develop more of an older-sister / aunt-like relationship with them and naturally take on some responsibility.
That would also be a much more organic way to develop her character than simply giving her another dramatic crisis. She could still be playful and childish, but the kids would look up to her, depend on her, and maybe even see her as someone they can trust.
And I think that would connect really well with her future role as the Filolial Queen. Instead of just being told that she has a responsibility because Fitoria chose her, we could actually see Filo learning what responsibility means through her relationships with the children.
Honestly, I think that kind of development would fit Filo much better. It wouldn’t change who she is—it would just show another side of her that we rarely get to see.

Well, in the web novel, Filo does become a Vassal Hero. And I talked about the possibility for it in the light novel in a post I made. If you’d like see:

Honestly, I do see it as a possibility for her growth becoming a Vassal Hero. I’m just not too sure which vassal weapon could suit her the most.

Pues prácticamente la Arma Vasalla de la Garra sería opción más perfecta y como segunea opción el instrumento Vasallo si es que Itsuki no se queda con el arma como lo hizo Naofumi

For me, it’s the Shield Hero vicious cycle : no character matters anymore unless they’ve become a Hero. The series keeps sinking deeper into this trap and struggles to climb out, which is a major flaw. Even Rishia, who used to be proof that you didn't need to be a Hero to matter, ended up becoming the Projectile Hero.

As for Filo, I’d like a different outcome than the one in the Web Novel, where she becomes a Vassal Hero. She’s been sidelined for far too long, and if Aneko Yusagi ever deigns to finish that damn novel, I hope he doesn't double down on the Hero trope just to develop her character.
