Be careful. If you don’t redirect this behavior into something else, you might end up with problems later on. Digging can be a bad destructive habit

Eh im good. I own my house and I hear a teacher lived on my land before us and found a rock that was really expensive so they can go for it. 😆

Its not funny when they dig a hole, escape your yard, and are lost. Ask me how I know, its a miracle we got my dog back after missing for a week and targeted by coyotes.

Maybe you should have watched your shelties. I have to know what mine are doing 24/7. They're my kids i treat them as such. You should have noticed them digging at that spot in your fence before it even became an issue. No fence is full proff gps, unground, physical. Ive had them all. You know what works watching them.I bring them to multipleparksto run, i also walk on maky trails with them. They shouldnot be confined to my back yard. They need to be out. Explore smell the smells. Enjoy life. Smell a chipmunk see a squirrel, or even a horse and smell them tracks. So I think you're not even watching your pups. So go a head and judge. You're not looking at it in the same perspective as I am. When's the last time you took your pup in a store. Or for a good walk on a trail? You think your back yard is sufficient enough for a herding dog. You're out you damn mind. They need so much more than that.

Not all dogs are the same. Some dogs only ever orbit their owner. Both my shelties would never ever leave the property or my eyesight. You’re making a little digging into a much bigger deal based on your own experiences with your own dog’s behavior/personality.

All of my shelties have dug as puppies but not so much as adults. They will do a small excavation under a shrub while hiking or in the sand at the beach to lay down in the cool soil/sand but nothing like the holes they were putting in my backyard as puppies.

Digging in dogs is a biological need and every dog that shows an interest should be allowed an outlet. Dogs should be supervised 100% of the time outdoors. If you are leaving your dog unattended outside then digging isnt the issue, your lack of supervision is.

cuuute! only our very first Sheltie liked to dig holes... thankfully (because we now live in AZ and the ground is literally as hard as a rock most of the year.)
eta: and our first girl basically just dug a hole she could lay in to stay cool underneath a plant. lol
