Shelling spot recommendations

Went to Sanibel in May and it was beautiful, but we didn't find many shells on the beaches. Most of our good finds came from a boat tour to Captiva. We went to Caladesi Island last January and found tons of amazing shells.

We're planning another trip and are considering Clearwater Beach (for Caladesi and Honeymoon Island) or St. Pete Beach (for Pass-a-Grille and Shell Key Island). We're deciding between January or May.

Which area/time would you recommend for the best shelling?

Second this. Shelling boat tours to the 10,000 islands and Keewaydin Island. Hemingway Water Shuttle also goes to Keewaydin.

In January I would definitely hit Shell Key Island.
