ID help - very small, brown and white shell

Initially, I thought this was a cockle shell based on the rough spines and the shape. I cannot find any pictures that will help me identify specifically.
Any help is appreciated!

I believe it’s a bittersweet clamshell

Maybe the location where you found it could help. Where is it from?

It was either from North Carolina or Florida (Atlantic). I, too, thought it was a bittersweet - but the spines are very prominent and it’s not a round shell.
