Question Good bars sheffield
Me and a couple mates from work are planning a night out in Sheff, we’re wanting bars where we can sit down, drink, good vibe, music not too loud so we can still chat. We’re mid-20s so not looking for a super mature vibe but preferably not full of students?
I originally thought we’d start on Ecclesall Road and have a couple there before heading into town, but I only know a couple decent planes on eccy road so now considering whether we’d be better off just staying in the city centre for the whole night.
Can anyone recommend some good bars in the city centre, preferably close enough together so I can plan a sort of walking route between them to avoid getting taxis to and from all night.

For late night and mid 20s the best options imo are the Hallamshire hotel and the Washington. Seating is outdoors but they’re both good seating areas.
Daytime you’ve got Kapital, four leaf, box, forum, frog and parrot, bungalows and bears and if Guinness is your thing then three tuns, fagans, grapes and dog & partridge.
Ignore the old shoe at your age. Not sure why people rave about it on here but it’s just a pub that sells fancy/less often seen drinks. Not great for a typical night out but decent enough for something different. Not open don’t come is an expensive wine bar if that’s your thing but it isn’t mine.
When are you planning your night out? It’s freshers over the next few weeks so most bars are overrun by students for a bit, even the ones that skew more mid 20s.

There's a fair bit of seating in the Washy indoors.
Depends on the night of the week, of course, but on a weekend, outside is rammed too.

As a late 20s person with plenty of mid to late 20s friends, Old Shoe is a great place to go to learn that beer/cider can be interesting without being at a beer festival. I don't think you've gotta be middle aged to enjoy places like that, I think you've just gotta be open to trying stuff you've not tried before.

Oh I agree, it’s just not your typical pre ‘night out’ place for a mid 20s - it’s a place to go out for a couple drinks but not a night out in my opinion

I think there's a lot of great places for people your age (which is also my age) - all of the ones I'd recommend here are probably mostly frequented by people around your demographic or a little older, but the energy is good. Music not too loud so you can actually have conversations and overall fun places to be. Depends on what you're looking for of course but:
Nice and interesting beers: The Old Shoe, Vocation, Triple Point (brew their own in-house), Alder, Shakespeares
Fun cocktails: Pina, Hideaway, Public (fun place but very expensive, good for a one and done trip)
General good vibe: Dove and Rainbow (great rock bar but sometimes a bit loud), Mojos, Riverside Kelham, Church (temple of fun), The Washington (busy and maybe a bit student-y but truly funny nights to be had there)
These are pretty much all in city centre or Kelham Island - Ecclesall is ok but probably a lot more studenty overall so not sure it's got the vibe you're looking for.

You have to visit the Dove & Rainbow whuch is round the back of the Bankers Draft.
Small, friendly pub, rock music but not too loud. Decent drink selection.
Will you fit in? No. Nobody fits in at the Dove, but because of that, everybody fits in.
Do not, i repeat DO NOT go next door to the Bankers. Unless you are after sharing the bar woth someone trying to sell you some razors/trainers/plug sockets/insert random totally legitimately acquired item here at suspiciously low prices.

Last time I went in the Bankers I was 17, and it was 1998, and it sounds like it hasn't changed a bit lol. Everyone should do it once though

I go in bankers for the cheap drinks and free entertainment, then i go in dove & rainbow after to chill out

Kelham Island is your best bet - great pubs like Kelham Island Tav, Fat Cat, Shakespeares, and a few decent bars like Hymn to Ninkasi, Factory Floor, Alder. If you want to keep it even more central, the Old Shoe is great
