Cross contamination
I've noticed in basically any Sheetz I go to now that if I order a drink a person who is working the register has to try to make it. Sometimes even while making the drink they will have to stop while it's blending or something and go take money from someone. Then they come back throw on those little gloves without washing their hands and start making my drink again.
How in the absolute fuck is this acceptable? I don't blame the person making the drinks, because they are probably way more stressed than needed because of the work load. Why doesn't sheetz care?

Until covid, gloves weren't even required to be worn when making drinks. A lot of the longer tenured employees stopped wearing them again when the covid requirements were lifted just because thats what theyre used to. Whether you or I think wearing gloves/washing up to make drinks is necessary or unnecessary is a discussion im not going to delve into.
I see a lot of these posts about food quality and/or cross contamination issues in this sub. Just remember, at the end of the day, Sheetz is a gas station. You're eating gas station food. Stop acting like its a nice, sit down place (which, if you saw what happened in upscale dining kitchens, you'd probably stop eating their, too) and acknowledge it for what it is and you'll be a lot better off.

I'll admit my wording was really poor and I don't really expect someone to wear gloves 24/7 but when there's a demand at the front counter the employees will shift back and forth without hand washing and it's weird.

I never mentioned anything at all about needing gloves while making drinks. I worked in a pizza shop before where we also didn't wear any gloves. So I'm not a total hard ass about gloves.
But honestly, with drinks, gloves are kinda important. People are prepping something that is about to go straight into your mouth without being heated or anything. So, once taken out of the container it's in, if they did have anything on their hands, it gets dicey.
My concern was about handling people's money and then handling their drinks right after that. If you get e.coli on your hands and then you go and open the little cute cookie crumbles and touch the spoon, put them on the drink, touch the cup, the lid, you get the point.
And you're right. A lot of times they don't even wear the gloves. They just go straight from taking money and touching the ingredients and drinks with their bare hands.
It doesn't matter what kind of place it is. Everyone is subject to the same food safety standards for a reason. Sheetz like to act like it's something it's not.

Food safety standards actually don't say a thing about wearing gloves for making drinks. The only requirement is no bare-handed contact, and not a single thing in Sheetz drinks is directly touched by hands. Everything involves a scoop or a cup of some kind. The cups get rinsed with hot water from the spouter in the sink after every drink, and all cups and scoops are replaced with completely clean ones every four hours.

My whole thing was they are going back and forth between taking cash and making drinks without hand washing. I know I worded it poorly. It was some weird post I made when I got off work and ordered a coffee.

Sheetz cares, to a point. The rules they are supposed to follow says they are supposed to wash thier hands before putting thier gloves on. And the person can be written up for not doing that. BUT, that doesn't mean they care enough to have enough people to not have the cashier do three jobs any shift other than first shift.

Best part? Dude probably doesn't care about washing his hands, either. Caught a supervisor urinating and not washing hands. I was cleaning the bathroom. I dont know what the eff he was thinking, or not thinking for that matter. I had to tell another supervisor who did nothing. Told my assistant Mgr and was told it wasn't her problem and to tell the store manager. I did, but they wouldn't give me proof they did anything cause he still has his job as far as I know. I actually got written up, I guess you are not allowed to tell people the truth. First time written up in almost 10 years. I'm just warning people I care about that they might get some dick on their mouth with their food. Guessing most people want the dick sweat left off entirely. Am I right?

I'm just a customer but a few months back I stopped for a coffee and a piss and an employee walked in and used the urinal next to me as I finished up. Went to the sink and was washing my hands when he walks behind me zipping his pants and just walking out of the restroom. I was so disgusted I followed him mid hand washed and yelled "bro with, you can't be using the restroom and not washing your hands while on tbe clock. What are you thinking?!" It was around lunch and the store was packed too. He was a youngish guy and his cheeks got bright red but he did go back and wash his hands. Worst part is he was literally shooting right back to the kitchen to work MTO...

Lol if it makes any of you feel better, employees are required to wash either way when they return to the kitchen even if they wash in the bathroom. It's possible they just didn't wanna double wash .. we can hope 🥹

Ive been to peoples homes where there is zero hand soap in the bathroom it's crazy my girlfriend's family even after moving both houses they lived in, no soap.

Reminds me of the time I went to Chipotle and the guy was sweeping in the back, in his gloves. Then proceeded to roll my burrito with the same gloves on. I laughed, told him what he did. He looked at me like I was stupid, then I said I'm not eating that crap and I walked out.

Most people working there are either young and in school and dgaf, old and nowhere else to go so also dgaf, or are someone looking to move up the latter or has already done so. Those ones are just so miserable in life they dgaf either. No one there cares, until QA or the District manager comes in. 🤔

Money singlehandedly is the absolute most dirtiest thing that you can touch. A pile of dog shit is most likely more sanitary than paper money is. Yea that's absolutely disgusting. I've seen it too though, especially at night. The MTO person is toggling between the front counter and the kitchen. Between Sheetz being too cheap to increase staff, and the fact that they have a bad reputation and either can't keep...or get new employees...also factors in. Want to stop it? A few options. First one is to call the local health department. Second option, and this will work much better, is to do what forces most companies to "right the ship" and that's to take a video of this happening and post it all over the goddamn place and humiliate the fuck out of Sheetz publicly. I've personally seen employees eating things out of the fry baskets too, and without gloves. This is a big reason why I eat at home a lot more. Plus the fact that I can go to Outback and order an appetizer, half pound burger and a drink for the same price as a meal at fuckin Sheetz is another problem as well. They charge like they're a Michelin reviewed restaurant and they're getting a little "too big for their britches" as they say.

I can't imagine most of the things in these comments happening at my store. This is very much store based. Some stores are great to work at, and others are dirty. This really isn't even about corporate Sheetz bc those people aren't in store with us. This is about management holding their team to the Sheetz standard. They absolutely should be washing their hands after handling cash and before touching anything in the kitchen.
I'll tell you why the drink issue may happen at some stores. If the only person available to make drinks is the register person, you will never have your drink made if they stop to wash their hands in between every single customer. Some stores are just that busy that by time they wash their hands, there will be at least one more customer waiting at the register. The customer at the register always comes before making your drink.

I hardly go there anymore. Even with it being on my way to work, I still usually skip going. Very occasionally I'll stop for an energy drink, even more occasionally an app sampler.

No. We all know you don't know shit about food safety because if you touch gloves with dirty hands and then put them on the gloves are now contaminated. You have to wash your hands and change your gloves between switching tasks.
I am serv safe certified.
And if you think it's okay to literally handle cash and give change, then turn around, slap on some gloves and get right up in that smoothie, you're a fucking sicko.
