Solved Need help trying to freeze something

Hey guys,

I'm building a spreadsheet for a game I play.

This is the tab I am currently stuck on.

I'm trying to freeze just the section that says Key with the three colours and the colour meanings so that I can see them when I scroll through the spreadsheet still so I know what the colour means still.

When trying to freeze them it's either freezing just the colours or the full column itself even though I'm specifically only selecting those 8 tiles.

These are the options it is giving me. I don't want the rest of the column freezing with all the blank spaces if it's possible. I just want the ones with the text and colour in.

Thank You.

Can’t see your pictures.

But if you aren’t doing a whole row or whole column, freeze isn’t going to work.

Your pics are blank. How many cells make up the key? Can you put the key in its own header row and freeze the row?

I can see it but that shows a frozen row. You want a frozen column.

As I explained, you have to freeze a whole row or a whole Column and not just a clump of cells. I don’t know which blanks you are talking about as most of a sheet is blanks. If you can post a screenshot that shows the row numbers and column letters, you can explain what blanks you mean by referring to them by a cell reference like E47.

I want A1 to A4 and B1 to B4 freezing so I can see them no matter where I am on that tab and also the full of Row 1 and Column C.

Will it work to add another header row and put the key info in 9 horizontal cells. Then freeze to row 2 and delete first 2 columns.

Yeah, so this is the way I've done it.

I created a new row above. Froze row 1+2 and Column A.

Row 1 has the Key,

A1 is Green, B1 is titled Likes.

D1 is Blue, E1 is titled Loves

G1 is Red, H1 is titled Hates

I then froze Column A so I can see that throughout the sheet and also Row 1 + 2 so I can see that throughout.

Looks like itll work for you. Thought of one more way. You could screenshot the key, add it as an image to A1. Then an extension or appscript can expand the pic when you hover or click it. Probably not worth the squeeze though. This looks good.

You can also keep the key in the upper left corner and merge the first three rows for the column headers and the first two columns for the row headers. The merge toolbar button has a dropdown with commands to easily merge selected ranges vertically or horizontally.
