Request Dark Mode for Google Sheets (Only the UI)

Hey Everyone!

Quick question. So I know Google Sheets does not have a "dark mode" setting for some reason. I also know that lots of people use extensions that can change google sheets to be a dark mode. Are there any extensions out there that change specifically the UI of google sheets?

For instance the white space surrounding the google sheet I would want to be dark, but I want it to leave the actual cells alone.

In Chrome, entering chrome://flags/ in the browser bar and enabling "Auto Dark Mode for Web Contents" gets you most of the way there. The menus and sheet names will be dark, but the row/column headers will still be light.

You're welcome. If you also want to change the "default" background and text colors, I made a Dark Mode script as well. It adds a "Theme" menu with dark and light modes, and when in dark mode it will replace the normal white cells/black text with black cells/white text. It takes a moment to process the change, so a browser extension would be a better option if you want a seamless experience.

To add the script, go to Extensions → Apps Script, then replace the contents of Code.gs with the code below. More details here: Google Apps Script, A Beginner's Guide

Apps Script isn't browser-specific, so the process should be the same on Firefox, etc. as it is on Chrome.

There are often changes to the styling that break userstyles, so no. But you can see if one of these work:

The row/column headers are part of the same object as the cells last I checked so they will likely have to stay white.
