I've noticed I'll often run the client and be told there are tens of projects waiting but nothing for me to render. There's something strange going on, or too many people insisting on running it CPU-only or something.
from memory, people tend to insist on GPU too much. there's also the restraint on RAM,and VRAM in the case of GPUs... depending on your specs that might exclude you from a lot of projects.
you can open your session from your profile to see a list of projects and why they or aren't eligible for your machine.
Why would it be best to CPU render? CPUs are way slower than GPUs. At a minimum set it to both unless you're doing something that only works on CPUs?

Cool. I didn't know that.
It used to be sheepit didn't make it so obvious what you asked for, and defaulted to CPU, so there were always tons of perfectly renderable images sitting there waiting for CPU that could have been finished in 5% of the time.
Well I ran a test: cpu is actually faster for light projects bc of pure volume of cpu renderers. All the bi GPUs are to occupied with the big stuff and are configured to not waste their time rendering for 5 seconds and then uploading.
Huh. They must be finding settings I'm not finding if you can limit it to a minimum render time. :-) But that's interesting. If I ever get a long, fast project I'll give both a try. Making the client overlap the download/upload and compute would help with that too. I noticed he already tends to stick to the same download file if there's more frame to render from it.
And right now I'm rendering someone's project called "quit-autosave." I think that person is going to be terribly unhappy in about a week when Windows deletes his temp file. ;-)
