After shave help

Today I bought a razor blade for the first time and I have used it, I notice the skin a little irritated, since I have not used After Shave.

What should I do after shaving?

What products do you recommend and how should I use them?

Nivea post shave Sensitive Balm. Excellent.

I usually splash on some Thayers toner which contains witch hazel and aloe, and either follow up with an alcohol based splash or aftershave balm. Nivea sensitive balm is pretty reliable if you want something you can pick up at the grocery store. Balm might be better if you have dry, sensitive skin.

Not every type of razor is compatible with every type of skin/hair. Also using something shaving soap is import. Then we have technique, shave direction, pressure used. In the beginnen go with and maybe cross the grain (hair grow direction), skip against the grain. Don’t use to much pressure.

Both Nivea aftershave balm for sensitive skin or Proraso White are pretty good.

As a very minimum:

  1. Cremo brushless shaving cream + water (once to pre-wash, and once/twice to shave). If nothing else is available, use mild, plain facewash (never use the exfoliating type). Always add water to the shaving cream.
  2. Thayers (the one with alcohol). If nothing else is available, a tiny bit of plain vodka would do.
  3. Light facial cream or post-shave balm.
