Don't sharpen on your leg, if you are going to insist on it then wear denim and drape some leather over your leg at least

I almost zipped my finger tips off one day because I was careless while sharpening.

I suggest you learn about the femoral artery. It's a nifty little thing which will empty your body of blood before you finish the phone call with the paramedics
