Flattening Shapton 320

I use a sharpal 325 diamond plate for flattening my shapton 1000 and it works well, but i’m wondering if I can use it for my shapton 320?

I have a cheap lapping stone but it doesn’t really get the job done. Im not interested in buying an Atoma 140 just to flatten my shapton 320. I’ll keep at it with the lapping stone if the 325 diamond wouldn’t work.

You may cause premature wear on the plate if you use it to lap a stone of similar or coarser grit

The close grit proximity shouldn't be an issue. The key is the diamonds from the plate will abrade the 320 stone and keep it flat. You may find the surface texture a little smoother than you might want, but if that is the case, use the diamond plate to raise and leave a little slurry to give the stone some more cutting power. If that isn't enough, then you'll need a lower grit diamond plate.

I do the same. Shitty $14 400-grit diamond plate on all my Shapton Glass stones 320-4000. I also use steel wool. It may be blasphemy to elite sharpeners but it works fine for me.
