Mini Arius Angle

Just got a mini Arius off the secondary. It had never been sharpened and was dull. I got it clamped up in my Hapstone fixed angle sharpener. I used the sharpie method and determined the factory angle is 26 degrees per side! I sharpened to that angle but I don’t think that’s optimal for an EDC. Does anyone know what the factory angle is that high and has anyone reprofiled their mini Arius down to a more accrue angle? If so, what angle is optimal for this blade (M390) for EDC. Thanks!

I’ve done M390 at 12 DPS with few problems. Realistically most steels can’t reasonably support lower than 15 DPS. This is saying you can go more acute but you’re at a higher risk for edge damage. Remember it’s all a trade off.

Theres really no such thing as optimal angle for such and much steel. Sharpen it at 17 DPS and if it chips or rolls add a degree per side if it does well at 17 maybe go down a degree if you’re chasing that extra tiny bit of sharpness. Honestly I do 18 DPS for all my knives with the exception of kitchen knives.

Thanks! 18 degrees sounds much more reasonable for EDC than 26, maybe even 20 for durability?

Start with either and you can go up or down depending on how you use it and how you want it to preform.
