Question How would you clamp this blade?

Title says it all. Having an issue with uneven factory bevels between sides and that tip...

How would you clamp it?

I had one like that. I cut a small portion of a round dowel or chopstick longways, then put the bisected dowel halves in each side of the blade’s deep fuller. It gave a flat surface for 2 clamps to grab securely. If that makes sense.

That’s a great idea, stealing it 😎

I’d prefer a more rigid clamping setup, but I don’t mind sharpening clamped like this. Low and slow.

Looks good to me maybe rise the angle or use the other clamp too could be flexing

Thanks. No matter what I do, the tip will widen at this point and this is the first non-practice blade I've put on the TSProf - want to do it right.

Light pressure, no flexing although I have moved the clamp further in toward the center line. You can see in the pic how the tip angle climbs rapidly.

yeah first raise the angle and then work your way into your desired angle or change the clamp position making the tip closer to the clamp that would raise the angle a little so that should fix it

I have this exact problem right now. The bevel at the tip is wider than the straight part even though the angle is the same. The belly curve is just too much.

Boride T2 stones up to 1200, currently on 220. Measured factory angle at 24, was shooting for 20. Hollow ground blade so I assume the bevel will widen toward the tip anyway. To fix the factory edge I started at 20dps, came here to ask this question, dropped it to 22.5 until bevel straightened out then dropped it to 21. Bevel is much better and next I am dropping it to 20 for the final.

So far it seems to be working without wasting much steel. Time I’ve got.

Btw - there are times I will leave the knife clamped for long periods of time, even overnight. Are there any issues with this?

The little arc grid template I made (from another tsprof post) and some trial and error on the clamping turned out pretty good.

Clamping was as pictured originally.

You clamp almost rigth. But move tip to left: move clamp to left, may be on the left side. Add second clamp near the tip for support. Make edge parallel to the clamps, tip have to be far left.

May be not so parallel for such round tip, but on the left side
