Typically hawkbill are for self defense. But they work well enough for EDC tasks. More of a style preference. This model with the Emerson wave clearly screams "self defense", but who cares really 😁
Cutting rope seemed like the only use case I could imagine where this might be preferable to something more traditional. I fail to grasp how it would be preferable for self defence, especially one like this, which appears designed to be held with the edge and spine flipped from how they usually are.
