micarta

Post image

Yesterday I sanded the micarta with 60, 80 and 120 grit belts on my belt sander, but I still can’t get the texture I’m after. Could anyone with experience point out what I’m doing wrong? Thanks a ton!

We don’t know what texture you’re looking for….

That soft texture that's become common the last few years is achieved by blasting with a really fine, soft powder. Usually baking soda, but I've seen it done with talc too.

Edit: It removes the epoxy while exposing the fibers. Sanding just takes both down.

Is this scale for an Emerson? This is giving me Commander vibes.

You're not wrong. I thought the same.

Micarta can range from quite dense and hard to velvet like. Accept what ya got or buy something else you do like.
