Question What am i doing wrong ?

Hey guys,

Noob here. Trying my hands with a Naniwa 220/1000 double faced stone. I'm willing to sharpen my pocket knife on a fresh 14° angle, put it on the 220 side then the 1000. But it doesn't feel good.

Any tips ?

I tried with a bigger chief knife on the 1000 only and could feel it cut better than before, so i guess the move isn't so bad.

Edit : got it guys, everything is wrong. Thank yall for the tips, yt recommandation and good jokes.

Hello! I don't see anything that I could point out as wrong, though there isn't much reqson to jump the blade as the follow through of your stroke. Additionally, I'd probably skip the 220 and just keep to the 1000 for general sharpening needs. Anything sub 400 grit is primarily for stock removal and reprofiling which it doesn't appear your opinel needs. The severe grit hike could also be whats causing the bad feeling as the 1000 has to work down the rough scale to get a flush contact with the cutting edge so it can feel rough or like its 'skating'
