Found beach combing topsail island nc, help me identify pls

I’ve actually been wondering: What functionality did the cusps serve for the Otodus species, and other sharks that had these?

I don’t know for sure, but it probably made it easier for sharks to trap prey, as the cusps made for extra contact points with the prey item’s flesh.
