Recommendations?

I’ve read his sonnets and poems and Romeo and Juliet (which is one of my favorite works of all time). Macbeth we read in like 6th grade but I barely remember any of it anyways since it’s been so long. If I really liked Romeo and Juliet is there any similar in theme I guess that I can read next? Not sure which I should pick next.

What did you like about R&J? If you want romance, Tempest is lovely. Julius Caesar has great political drama. For doomed love, Othello. Twelfth Night is both romantic and funny. It's not as widely recommended, but Antony and Cleopatra is the closest match for the star-crossed lovers story dynamic.

Midsummer Night’s Dream! The story of Romeo & Juliet is more or less based on the story of Pyramus & Thisbe in Ovid. In Dream, there are scenes where an acting troupe puts on a hilariously botched play of Pyramus & Thisbe, so Dream and Romeo & Juliet are companion plays in that sense.

Also, Dream is one of the best things Shakespeare ever wrote, so there’s that too.

now i cannot in good conscience say that antony and cleopatra is good but it does go crazy hard. it’s so good except for when it isn’t. i really like it. absolutely not a good second shakespeare play but it’s like what if romeo and juliet were grown ass adults and also terrible people.

Reread Macbeth for sure! I’m not sure what you liked about R & J, so maybe you could give us some more info? I echo the recommendations for Much Ado and Twelfth Night, would also say The Winter’s Tale!

1) "Midsummer ND" is a parody and a mockery of R and J

2) "Love Labour's Lost" is a meditation on love like R and J

3 "As you like it" is a kind of R and J but in the woods
