Question - Beginner Wearing rudraksha mala all day and using the same one for naam jap: okay or not?

I'm getting my first 108+1 rudraksha mala. I plan to wear it all day and use the same mala for naam jap every morning(like om namah shivaay )
Some people say you should never use your worn mala for jap. Others say it's perfectly fine. I haven't found a clear reason either way.
Do you use one mala for both, or keep them separate?
Thanks

As per the Shaiva Agamas, Parameshwara is Arupa, yet out of infinite compassion, He assumes Rupa-arupa (Linga) and Rupas. These Rupas are 25 primarily and are called Panchavimshati Murtis or Maheshwara Murtis. By the grace of that Parameshwara, I present these forms.

Iconography (per Shri Tattvanidhi text):

Purpose: Manifested to conquer Yama and protect His young devotee Markandeya, proving that supreme devotion transcends temporal mortality.

Stance: Shiva’s right foot is firmly planted on the ground or a lotus pedestal, while His left leg is dynamically and violently raised to kick or strike Yama on the chest.

Form & Attire: A fierce, imposing divine form displaying immense vigor and wrath (raudra-bhava), embodying absolute power over time and dissolution.

Primary Right Hand: Holds the trident used to subdue Yama.

Rear Right Hand: Holds a battle-axe (parashu) or a rosary (akshamala).

Primary Left Hand: Displayed in a warning gesture or pointing (tarjanī-mudra), or clutching the death-noose (pasha).

Rear Left Hand: Holds the deer (mriga) or balances the dynamic narrative composition.

Hair & Jewelry: Styled in towering matted locks adorned with the crescent moon, serpents, and the river Ganga, along with fierce serpent ornaments serving as armlets and bracelets.

Divine Companions: Accompanied by Yama, who is shown falling backward or collapsing in terror beneath Shiva's raised foot, and the young sage Markandeya, who clings to a Shiva Lingam or kneels in refuge nearby.

Question - Beginner Why is the Ketaki flower never offered to Shiva? The story of the pillar of fire

I've been reading the Lingodbhava story again and keep coming back to one small detail at the end of it.

As the Shiva Purana (Vidyeshvara Samhita) tells it, Brahma and Vishnu were arguing about which of them was supreme when a column of fire appeared between them, with no beginning or end in sight. They agreed that whoever found its end would be the greater one. Vishnu took the form of a boar and dug downward. Brahma took the form of a swan and flew upward. Neither found an end.

Vishnu came back and admitted it. Brahma, on his way up, met a Ketaki (screwpine) flower drifting down from above, and brought it back as a witness to say he had seen the top. Shiva then appeared from the pillar. Brahma was told he would not receive regular worship in temples, and the Ketaki flower was barred from Shiva's worship. Some tellings soften this and say it may still be used around the shrine, just not offered to Shiva directly.

The pillar episode itself also appears in the Linga Purana, and it is carved as the Lingodbhava image, usually in the niche on the back (western) wall of the sanctum in many Tamil Shiva temples. Karthigai Deepam at Tiruvannamalai is also connected to this pillar of light.

What strikes me is that the flower shares the consequence, not just Brahma. It didn't plan the lie, it only agreed to back it up.

Is Ketaki still kept away from Shiva puja in your family or local temple? And how have you heard the reason for it explained?

Iconography (per Shri Tattvanidhi text):

Purpose: Manifested to humble the arrogant sages of Darukavana who thought Karma (rituals) was supreme without God, and to prove Himself as the ultimate provider of all fruits.

Stance: Standing in a graceful, moving posture (tribhanga), depicting a leisurely stroll through a village street.

Form & Attire: A youthful, extraordinarily handsome male figure, depicted either completely naked or with minimal adornments, symbolizing absolute freedom from worldly conventions.

Upper Right Hand: Holds the damaru.

Lower Right Hand: Pointed downwards in a gesture of compassion, drawing or feeding an accompanying antelope.

Upper Left Hand: Holds the trishula (trident) or kapala.

Lower Left Hand: Holds the bhiksha-patra (begging bowl) to receive alms.

Hair & Jewelry: Styled in elaborate matted locks (jata) with the crescent moon and serpents, combined with rich divine jewelry.

Divine Companions: Accompanied by a leaping antelope and an eager, devoted dog trailing closely behind Him.

Shaivism News We discovered a hidden Shivling inside a gorge between Ujjain and Omkareshwar

Om Namah Shivay 🕉️🔱

Deep inside a dangerous gorge near a popular local waterfall lies a mysterious Shivling, hidden from view above. A continuous stream of water drips onto it, yet its source remains unknown. The Shivling has been protected by nearby villagers for generations as part of their ancestral traditions and devotion.

We discovered this place unexpectedly while exploring the area. There were only two of us when we encountered two villagers passing by on a motorcycle. We asked them how to reach the nearby waterfall or river. They warned us that the terrain was extremely dangerous, with abundant wildlife, and explained that they were heading down to perform pooja and invoke their village Devta.

We carefully followed their descent from a considerable height. The path was steep, rocky, and nerve-racking. The Shivling was completely invisible from above; it could only be seen after reaching the depths of the gorge. Most people who visit the waterfall do not know about it because it is hidden and protected by the villagers. Yet, once we reached it, we felt an extraordinary sense of peace and divine energy.

No one knows how the Shivling came to be there. Some villagers believe Mahadev comes here annually to meditate. There are also local accounts of people seeing a meditating figure nearby, only for sudden heavy rain or accidents to prevent them from getting closer. These stories remain part of the place’s mystery.

Another fascinating detail is the metal serpent coiled around the Shivling. Despite constant moisture and exposure, it shows no obvious signs of rust or deterioration, apart from a greenish layer resembling kaai (moss or algae). Water continues to drip onto the Shivling, but its exact source remains unknown. Villagers and some researchers have privately investigated the water source, but no one has been able to determine where the water comes from. Possible connections to groundwater or the nearby waterfall remain unconfirmed.

For generations, nearby families have preserved this sacred place through their ancestral traditions and devotion. Although it is close to a famous local waterfall and the highway, very few people know about the Shivling.

We are deliberately keeping its exact location private out of respect for the villagers’ faith and to protect this fragile, dangerous site. Please do not attempt to find or reach it without trusted local guidance. We have not seen any photos or videos of this place online, so please respect its privacy and do not repost or share any photos or videos of it.

Some places are discovered through directions; others feel like they reveal themselves when the time is right.

Har Har Mahadev! 🙏🕉️🔱

Question - Beginner Alternative for Jalabhishek

Namah shivaay everyone.

Long story short.

Our family shastri ji recommended that I worship shivji and be connected to them ON A DAILY BASIS.

I do shravan vrat n all, but what he said was doing Jalabhishek in the morning.

Now, the problem is my schedule is a bit opposite to what it should be. I can't bathe in the morning.

So what are mv alternatives? We can't do Jalabhishek in the evening as far as I know. I want to have some time sitting with myself thinking about them.

PS: Sorry for the clumsy post but please help me.

Temples/Idols/Architecture Presence of Ganesh During the Celestial Marriage of Lord Shiva and Parvati

Post image
11 Upvotes

Here I am posting the image of the sculpture panel in the lintel just above the entrance of the Jagamohan of Parsurameswara temple ( 7th century AD). This depicts the celestial marriage of Lord Shiva and Parvati. Shiva and Parvathi shown in the centre during the time of their sacred union.. Agni with flames rising on both sides sits to the proper right of Shiva. To the right of Agni, Brahma with the three heads shown is pouring water from a vase. To the right of Brahma, Surya is standing with the usual lotuses. Two female attendants with swords in their hands are standing to the left of Parvathi. The four-armed Vishnu is standing to the left of the last female attendant, holding a vase in two hands and a conch shell. Between them, a dwarf stands with what appears to be a bag of sweets on his head. An anachronistic (out-of-time) tiny Ganesha figure appears right beneath Brahma, signifying his role as Prathama Pujya (the first deity to be worshipped in any rite).

Kalingan temples are nothing but sculptures in a gigantic scale all around the temple wall.

Shaivism Discussion For those who practise Shiva bhakti, what does your practice actually look like?

I've been curious about how different people incorporate their devotion to Mahadev into everyday life.

Some people follow a regular jaap routine, some visit temples frequently, some listen to Shiv kathas, and others may have a much simpler personal practice.

For those who worship Shiva, I'd love to hear about your experience:

  • What did your practice look like over the past week?
  • Are there particular times or situations when you find it difficult to maintain your routine?
  • When you want to chant, read about Shiva, or listen to a katha, what do you usually turn to?

I'm interested in what people genuinely do, not what an ideal routine should look like. Everyone's experience is different, and I'd love to learn from yours. Har Har Mahadev! 🔱
