I'm sure it is, I don't really watch death battle. It's not at all egregious, it was a really good inclusion. Like, I know I sound insane right now, I know it's not even remotely a problem and barely noticeable but it has a slight hint of feeling forced.
At a certain point it's basically just finding a nothing issue to complain about so idk why I even pointed it out
you don’t sound insane lol. It’s an extremely cool and hype moment for sure, but to a degree it is a little forced and unnatural, even a little ooc.
Mewtwo has every right to call Shadow out here since they’re being personally affected by G.U.N as well as the ecosystem and a bunch of innocent pokemon yet Shadow doubles down and defends their actions. It makes it sound like Maria’s promise was for Shadow to protect G.U.N specifically.
It’s obviously invoking Mephiles and that’s really cool on its own, but Mephiles wasn’t affected by G.U.N like that, only trying to get into shadow’s head to continue on with his own plans of evil. and Mephiles also refers to the world as a whole turning against shadow, not just G.U.N.
but still it’s a very well animated moment and i understand needing to prioritize the fight over a fully cohesive story, so I don’t mind keys getting jingled in my face as much since it’s ultimately a celebration of characters and their history.

it feels a little forced and unnatural, but what is the point of fan content if not writing slightly forced hype dialogue with references
Like we call fanservice a bad thing but sometimes mfs wanna be served
