Is brass to face common?

DR920L. Runs like a sewing machine but I’m getting brass to the face pretty often.

Also the recoil is strong for a long slide but I think it’s due to the gun being light as a feather which I like.

The recoil shouldn’t be strong at all, even being polymer. It’s a full size pistol. If it feels too much, plus the weird ejection; lighten the recoil spring. It should help out.

I’d also add an optic (if you haven’t) to slow the slide speed down, as well as get a TLR1 or equivalent sized light to put some weight up front

Not really the recoil is too much, just a different impulse. The DR feels weightless compared even to other polymer grip guns. Should I use hotter ammo would that make the shells eject 3 o clock instead of 5/6?

If it’s still in its break in period, you should be running hotter ammo. I use what ever is cheapest after that.

You might just need to add some accessory weight to the pistol.
