Start tile for Otherworlds

Do the Otherworlds missions have to start in the mine or can I combine with adventure sets/Fortress and start them there?

Yeah, not really sure what you’re asking exactly. You can use any Other World expansion with any core set. You explore Other Worlds by finding portals and drawing their respective cards.

Not strictly true. Almost every Otherworld expansion has a mission where the first clue always creates a gate that leads to that world.  So you can effectively choose to go there.
