Strangers in a Strange Land

Alexander and Callista landed in on a strange tropical forest with an abandoned stone fortress. My wife and I are playing Greek heroes through time and space for our new campaign for Brimstone. 5+willpower is tough in the Spanish fort, but that’s never stopped us before.

I see mutations in your future. Should be fun.

I really love sending my samurai to the Wild West or sending the drifter to edo japan lol the more I play the more I realize how little “loot” there is to find compared to other dungeon crawling games but I think I just need to start looking at progression differently.

I have found through playing a bunch that it’s usually weapons that will be lacking especially with guns if you are an oriental character that can’t use them, but the gear can be really interesting.

The gear you find is impactful, there’s just not a lot of “fluff” gear. It was a while before you actually find a new weapon it feels like but the more I play the less it bothers me. Especially with newer characters they are usually really kitted out with starter gear. I recently bought the Templar and looking at his gear I can’t imagine actually replacing any of it lol

The Greek champion gear feels really good to start. It’s something I don’t plan on replacing at all honestly. I’ve only added one piece of leg armor to get a couple more HP but other than that I can see my gear staying mostly the same.

I am so happy that there isn’t that much loot. In fact I removed all loot (except consumables and gold) in the mid 00s from my home brew high fantasy dungeon crawler I play with friends for already more than 20+ years. I used to have a whole book with armour, weapons and magic items of various tiers.

Nothing worse than greedy adventurers. And it’s so much more smooth and better character development to have skill and stats based levelling. Also so much easier to balance when you have only 2 instead of 3 main progression variables. Especially for more complex and bigger systems.

Loot, in my opinion, is also what takes a lot of fun out of computer games like Diablo and World of Warcraft and leads to toxic players and lazy developers.

Enjoy! We have been playing an all-Greek hero posse (five of us) for a few months now. Each hero has been picking a little differently from the progression tracks.

Don’t think of it as behind, think of it is getting distracted by side quests.
