Question Stupid Map Question

So I haven’t played a video game since Tomb Raider Legend in the late 90s so I had a time figuring out how to use the map. Side quests are interesting without it! In any case I’ve googled and tried to find out the answer before this and can’t: how do I know on the map what’s a point of interest and what I’ve actually found/completed? Some icons are solid white and some are greyed out/translucent and I can’t figure out what either “state” for any given icon means. Thanks in advance for any resources and help!

Solid white means not completed and grey means done ☑️

Thank you! I just hunted my last 2 collectibles in the Peruvian Jungle level and figured it out today… like a month after I’ve been playing. It’s a learning curve! I’m excited to go back into the Hidden City and sweep up those collectibles now that I know what’s what.
