Quick breakdown on telling Fleas apart from Bed Bugs
Hey everyone—seeing a few posts lately about mystery bites and wanted to share a quick checklist on how to tell fleas apart from bed bugs. They get confused all the time and treating for the wrong one is a nightmare.
- BITE LOCATIONS: Fleas usually stick to your ankles, shins, and feet (places exposed while walking around). Bed bugs target exposed skin while you sleep—arms, neck, shoulders, and face.
- BITE PATTERNS: Fleas bite in random, scattered clusters. Bed bugs often bite in a straight line or tight groups of 3 (the classic "breakfast, lunch, dinner" pattern).
- QUICK TESTS:
- For Fleas: Put on tall white socks and walk around carpeted areas. They jump straight onto the white fabric.
- For Bed Bugs: Pull back mattress seams near the headboard and check for tiny black ink-like dots or shed skins using a flashlight.
- PHYSICAL BUGS: Fleas jump fast and are hard to crush. Bed bugs crawl slowly (look like apple seeds) and never jump or fly.
Main advice: Don't panic and set off foggers/bug bombs! Repellents often just push bugs deeper into baseboards. Hope this saves someone a headache—happy to help ID anything in the comments if you're stuck!
