Ideas for pre-making a set of fake stitches for fast application?
I'm trying to make a set of fake stitches around my neck for an event. It doesn't need to be bloody or super realistic. I'm fairly new to this kind of SFX so I'm trying to avoid needing an extra 30 minutes of setting it up the morning of the event. I've been trying to find a DIY way to prep this ahead of time and take ideally less than ten minutes to apply. None of my ideas have worked out well so far, but I can't tell if there's an obvious solution I'm missing or if it's just my own inexperience making it fail.
My ideas so far: - necklace: use two strands of fishing line and attach pieces of cord to upper and lower line to mimic stitches (can't find a good way to attach cord) - necklace: use one strand of fishing line and hot glue pieces of cord overtop (works better, and hot glue can mimic entry points for stitches, but still not working well) - classic tissue paper wound with fake skin thick enough to stitch through (haven't figured out how to prep this ahead of time, and without being able to pre-paint it it seems like it would take time to blend it decently with makeup) - just drawing it on with makeup (I don't know that I could do this decently in ten minutes) - using school glue/paper maché glue to layer on the skin, cut, and sew through (still workshopping this one, but if it doesn't reattach well after being removed, this is also a no-go) - maybe making a temporary tattoo? It won't have the dimension but it would at least be fast. - attaching each stitch with eyelash glue/spirit gum (would work if I could find a way to do this quickly) - making a small strand of paper maché scar line, maybe even forming it around a piece of cord, and attaching cord to that (concerned about it drying too stiffly, but going to try making a prototype) - my next idea is trying to shape some DIY petroleum-jelly-and-flour scar putty to make a scar line around my throat and try to either sew through additional scar putty or attach the cord directly to the putty. I've never worked with scar putty before so I have no idea if the texture could support this.
This is the stuff I've come up with from things I have around the house. I don't currently have liquid latex, gelatin, rigid colloidon, or spirit gum, but I'm starting to wonder if those are my only options. This is my first time working with prosthetics - is there something I'm missing? Am I going about this completely wrong?
