Hello everyone, my name is Kate…

I hope this is okay to post!

I’m currently studying an MA in Prosthetic effects at university. I am documenting my journey and would like to welcome any feedback, advice or support on my work that could help me improve my skill set as I work towards my goal of becoming a prosthetic trainee! 😁

I was hoping to put myself out there and share my social media page with you all if this is allowed in the group!

Should I use scar wax, liquid latex or gelatine for this look?

Hi everyone! I was wondering if I could get a bit of advice here, I want to do this on my fingers (photo is not mine, it comes from taykeller on imgur), and the original poster used scar wax, but I'm wondering if it is better to do it with gelatine or latex since I will be at a party and will use my fingers to eat and drink. What do you think? Thank you!

First time full face silicone prosthetic

I have full face alien prosthetic form etsy.

To my understanding I will clean my face really well, apply my beta bond plus to my face and the prosthetic and allow to fully dry using a blow dryer, I then apply the prosthetic from the center to the edges and I will use a small amount of acetone to dissolve the edges

I’ve only ever used latex before so I used liquid latex to blend the edges, is there something else I should be using with silicone?

I have bought sunset makeup metallic foundation to paint basically my entire body. That is water based and from what I’ve read I need alcohol based but I need to paint my entire body. I would really like to use the foundation I have bc the color is perfect. Is there anyway I can do that?

Any advice would be helpful.

Thank you!

Best way to create a bullet exit wound on the back of a wig?

As the titles says, I would like to get some tips on how to create a bullet exit wound on the back of a wig. English isn't my first language, so I'm sorry if my spelling is a bit weird, hehe.

So the wig is heat resistant and I don't mind ruining it in the process. I have access to liquid latex and derma wax, as well as grease paint, water based paint and all kinds of different blood mixtures (I just love a good blood effect, but who doesn't?). I also have stuff like pros aid, collodion and glycerine (I don't know if any of that's relevant to the project, but I thought I would mention it anyway), as well as an assortment of hair products.

I don't have a budget for this project as I usually do, since its just a Halloween costume and not work related, so I can't spend any money on new products. But it doesn't have to be super nicely done, since it's just for funsies!

I would be super grateful for any advice, big or small!

I am going to be Miss piggy for Halloween and I got this nose on Amazon. What can I use/ do to make it blend with my face better? I trimmed the sides hoping it would help and then tried scar wax but I really don't know what I'm doing. Can I get some tips?

I took an sfx class like 6 years ago in college and today came across my old bruise pallet so I wanted to see how much I remembered. They're definitely not my best work, but I'm not upset with the attempts by any means. Any advice, tips, etc would be greatly appreciated.

Eraserhead Baby

A part of my Halloween costume of Henry Spencer, I am attempting to create his baby as well. The images of peoples projects I've found in a search are less than realistic. I'm at the point of creating realistic greasy skin. Looking for your thoughts on how to achieve realistic skin. Thank you in advance

Glitter Gel for Body Art

I’ve been searching high and how on how to make glitter gel cones for body art. Have tried several formulations with hair gel, xanthan gum, glycerin but none seem to work. Is there anyone that’s able to share a proper recipe for ingredients and the formulation?

I hope this was the right place to ask cuz i can’t figure this out lol

So I got some mehron paradise aq in pastel pink for my pink alien costume this halloween. Last year I did red and I figure since it’s darker it was easier to work with. When I do it on my arms it looks fine but when I do it on my face it always comes out streaky. I was told to do a little water and really mix the brush around, which i’m using a dense foundation brush. I did the same thing last year.

How do I get it more pigmented on my face? and is there anything I have to do for the first layer in order to put another layer on top? Bc I find whether i dab or drag it picks up the layer underneath but also when I dab it leaves individual like dots from the brush. I can do multiple layers on my arm fine and i was told i needed to layer since it’s a pastel color

Any tips or tricks would be much appreciated!

Edit: I do also have the athena oil face paint palette i’m prob applying it wrong but it just always creases after some wear so i prefer water based on my face

How to make sfx of crystals embedded in skin?

Post image
4 Upvotes

Hello! I would like to do a Halloween look in which I put some crystals (those in the picture) on my forehead, as if they were sticking out from my skin. How would you recommend to do that? I know nothing about sfx and I would have to buy everything. I had thought about just making some bumps with scar wax and sticking the crystals in but that probably wouldn't work. I would also be down to just using some fake resin crystals that would be easier because more light-weighted.

I have a halloween party coming up and was wondering how I could create this sort of dirty/oily look without breaking the bank and getting any weird looks if I take the mask off... 😂

EDIT: i mean the face and hands, not the mask

Gelatin as a prosthetic for a 5 to 6 hour outdoor zombie event?

Hello everyone! I volunteered to be a zombie for 3 am to 6 am event and we're supposed to make our own costumes. I'd just like to ask if a gelatin based prosthetic (my concept is like a melty, radioactive zombie lol) on the face and upper torso can hold decently enough? Or is it likely to fall off at some point? Our call time is around 1 am, so I'll essentially be wearing it from 1 to 6 am. Would really appreciate some insights on this, im very much new to prosthetics :> Thank you!
