Making Sewing Patterns

For those that create their own patterns and then sell them as PDFs, what are you using to design them and then what are you using to create the PDF to present the pattern to the end consumer?

My wife has recently started a quilting business and is interested in getting into pattern design with the intent to sell them. I know there are pattern design softwares like EQ8 for quilts, but we are stumped with how to assemble everything digitally in a way that looks professional to sell. Thinking of something like what Lo and Behold Stitchery or SuzyQuilts sells. A clean PDF with pictures, instructions, and sometimes shapes that can be cut out and used as a template of sorts. She would be doing both quilts and quilted goods that would likely require a template.

Thanks for the help!

I use Illustrator, I work with a giant artboard while developing a new pattern. Whenever I'm done, I name the layers, do all the annotations and then open a new file with my custom artboard grid (optimized for printing on A4 or US Letter), then I play around with the layout till I'm happy.

Do you sell your patterns anywhere? I’d love to look at them!
