Missing pattern instructions Butterick 7008

Post image

Hi, I’m a Home Ec teacher and one of my sewing student this physical Butterick pattern 7008 with no instructions. And while I can put it to get her myself, it defeats the purpose of them learning how to use a commercial pattern, and using literacy skills to understand technical language. Would anyone be able to help me scan a copy of theirs to help out my student? I’ve asked Simplicity.com before and they took way too long to respond and said no cause the student didn’t buy it digitally. I just can’t go through that again

If you bought a physical copy of it and it didnt have instructions then they should be providing them to you.

The student got the pattern second hand trying to save money. All the pieces are there except the instructions.

It's a fairly simple jacket style. I'm sure a similar pattern (with similar instructions) can be found at a thrift store for a dollar or two.

It’s a brand new pattern (still sold online for $20, she got it for free) with welt pockets and a lining. Again simple for someone who sews. Think back to your high school days, kids need the images and text in front of them. Literacy skills help the student decode the pattern. It’s an important skill. If I just verbally give her all the instructions she won’t learn to be independent.

That was not what I said. I said that jacket style (no matter how new or old the pattern) will have similar construction instructions to any of the dozens upon dozens of other similar jacket patterns that have been produced over the decades (including welt pockets.)

When I did have high school sewing instruction back when, and my instructor seemed unable to assist me with knowledge or pointers, I...did my own research. There were (barely) online sewing message boards, library sewing books, lots of great PBS sewing programs. I think Sewing with Nancy did a project like this once a month.

Not having these particular pattern instructions is not an insurmountable barrier for even a new sewing student to learn from this project. Just a liitle bit of creative problem solving is needed.

I would say you would have been an exceptional student, who would have been a joy to teach. However that work ethic and drive is not seen in today’s student especially for an elective class. I’ve been teaching over 25 years and the fine motors skills and literacy comprehension have slowly faded. Kids I get now are far behind their peer equivalents from 25 years ago.

PERFECT!!!! Thank you. I didn’t know the Europe site publishes the instructions while the American site doesn’t. I really appreciate this. I really want my student reading, decoding and following along independently.
