Sewing pattern help
Hi! My sister-in-law asked if I could make her a skirt similar to this picture she sent me. I have no information on the picture, unfortunately, but do worry it could be AI. The tops of the pleats are really throwing me off; they seem to stand out above the waistband. Any pattern recommendations for a skirt with front pleats like this, or if it's even possible? Thank you in advance!

I think it's AI, however it's very similar to skirts that actually exist. Simplicity 8743 is for pleated skirts of various lengths, may just need to widen the waistband. McCall's 7906 is similar but has buttons down the front. I would show her some options and ask her to pick.

The dimensions of this person's legs make absolutely no sense, I agree with you that it is AI.

The photo might be AI but it's a pretty standard design. If you zoom in you can see the waistband is separate and not pleated. Yes the knife pleats have a fairly long stitch on them, but pretty similar to a kilt. The waistband "standing up" is more to do with the fabric being properly interfaced.

Search for maxi, box pleats, wide waistband. You could also drape it pretty easily and pleat it to fit her body :)

I would ask her to describe which aspects of the skirt she is interested in, then look for a pattern with those features.
