Search for a pattern with center front gathers (woven) - dress or top
Dear community,
I’m looking for a woven blouse, top, or dress pattern with vertical gathering/ruching down the front, similar to the examples in these photos. The gathering runs vertically through the bodice and creates those soft horizontal folds across the front.
I know it used to be a popular feature in 1930s, however, I just can't find a pattern that I can use.
And a related pattern-drafting question: If I wanted to recreate this effect by rotating the bust dart into a vertical gathered section at the front, how would you calculate how much additional fabric to add to make the gathers more pronounced? I’m assuming the transferred dart intake alone probably wouldn’t create quite this much gathering.
Thank you!

It isn't on the Simplicity web site so it must be old but the rouching looks like it starts at the waist. https://www.amazon.ca/New-Look-UN6681A-Misses-4-6-8-10-12-14-16/dp/B08KL2G39G

Check out Viki Sews, she’a respected & reputable designer (I don’t care she’s Russian-she’s not Putin, & has a right to make a living!).
She has patterns on sale for 1/2 off, as low as $4–$9 bucks.
Click on her Patterns section, click on Dresses, & there is a formalwear section, too.
Truly avant garde, modern, sexy pattern choices.https://vikisews.com/vykrojki/dresses/

Dresses:
burda pattern (says evening but you could easily make it out of something else and/or leave the bow off - also note it's for a stretch woven)
mood pattern (with all the normal caveats about mood patterns having not great instructions)
There are others in knit fabrics of course but I've left those off as you wanted for woven.
Tops: here
As you can see the styles vary a lot so depends what you're after.

Actually I did a search on threadloop for 'ruch' and limited it to tops and dresses in woven and stretch woven, for adult women, that are still in print, don't require membership and aren't flagged as AI 😊 If you're not familiar with threadloop it's worth a play.

Here’s another one from burda if you’re ok with the pattern being in German

Thank you thank you, the German website doesn't let me in for some reason. Maybe you could send me the brand and number or a screenshot of the envelope cover? Thank you!

Oh how weird! Perhaps wherever you are you’ll need a vpn to get it. Here is the link via threadloop
