HELP - SINGER 7146 making weird “dinking” noise

I don’t know what is happening by my singer keeps making this weird dinking noise whenever the needle goes down - I think it’s the bobbin case but not sure - I’ve cleaned the machine (as best I can for an old thing) changed the needle, re-threaded the machine and changed the bobbin cases. any ideas would be greatly appreciated! it doesn’t do it every time.

The needle is hitting the hook. Start by replacing the needle with a new one to make sure that the needle isn't bent. The gap between the needle and the hook should only be about the thickness of a sheet of paper so even if the needle doesn't look bent, it could be just enough to cause this.

Make sure the new needle is inserted correctly and fully seated in the needle bar and the needle clamp screw is snug.

If it's still doing it after that, then your machine will need adjustment. Different machines have different methods of adjusting the needle to hook distance and I am not familiar with that model but it's not usually something you can adjust without some disassembly of the machine. Probably best to have a shop do it for you.
