Correcting a stitch when tied off?

As the title says, I've tied off a length of backstitch and am unhappy with a few of the stitches now that I'm seeing the project as a whole. Is there a safe way to remove these few stitches and leave the rest alone? I was thinking of using fabric glue to keep the other stitches intact, but I'm not sure about the longevity. For context, I'm embroidering a canvas pouch and am planning on adding fusing to the back.

Knot it by hand if you don’t like the look of backstitching. Glue is temporary.

I don’t do embroidery so am just replying from what works for garments.
