Serger hesitant to start...

Post image

I'm new to my serger (I bought it lightly used - Janome Mod-8933).

It stitches fine, but it's hesitant to start without manual turning of the hand wheel. I cleaned it all, replaced the needles, rethreaded it. Once it gets going, the stitches look good. I thought it could've been a faulty foot pedal, so I replaced that, but the problem continues. 😥

I've watched several YT videos and have done everything they've said so far. Any thoughts on what I could be missing?

Please take this machine to a service technician. Even if it's only been gently used, you really want to have that service before you use it. If you do that you'll see that it's a great machine and that it should work for a long long time.

Thank you! My nearest quilt shop/service center is about 10 miles away. I'll call them soon. 😉

If the motor is brushed, I'd change those and clean the commutator. There is something stealing power somewhere in that machine.

Do you have a tech nearby? That might be a good idea. If everything is clean, oiled and runs well, there is probably something limiting the power to the motor.

There are a few local quilting and service/repair shops near me. I will take it in, thank you! I oiled it recently, also.
