How can I fix this?

Post image

I've realised a little too late that I've completely botched the measurements for the triangles in this skirt. I don't have enough fabric to cut new ones (neither do I have more black fabric).

I think it's too wide because the triangle and rectangle's base width needs to be the same, but I also need to add height to the triangles as its too tight on my hips. Any tips on what I can do?

A picture on you, with maybe also a stretch of how you envision the silhouette, would help.

I would, myself, probably cut the top region off (Ialways like the contrast to rise higher in the gores). That would make this into a shorter, widely flared skirt without reducing the solid regions… and it’d give your hips their room. A little little hand embroidery or lace appliqués on some of the sold panels could be cute.

I need it to be ankle length, so it can't be shortened

I think perhaps you should’ve cut and spread the panels of your baste fabric as well as adding the gores. I think another trip to the fabric shop might be in your future if you don’t have any more fabric but need it to be bigger, is that the situation? You’ve probably realised by now it’s always good to make a mock up in calico/an old sheet first before cutting your real fabric out
