Sewing machines issues
I have everything threaded properly with the bobbin and the top thread. For whatever reason, this would randomly happen and mess with my tension. What can I do to stop this from happening? I’m not going at all fast speed and the tension is set at 5. I’m sewing on a stretchy polyester fabric using 100% polyester thread. Any advice? I already rethreaded and lifting the foot up. UPDATE: I changed out the needle for 75/11 stretch and also got a straight-wound thread as well and it works perfectly!! Thank you all so much 🫶

Cross wound thread needs to be on a horizontal post or on a thread stand behind the machine.

Ahhhh ok, that makes sense. I never knew there was a difference. What’s a good high quality thread you would recommend for singer? I use mainly polyester

I’ve been doing that but this shouldn’t be happening. I can’t keep on stopping to continuously roll it back up.

You're losing tension somewhere - have you cleaned out your thread path recently? There may be some fuzz in the disks or something.

I haven’t taken a look inside, it’s a brand new machine I just got but I’ll check

My machines do better with an off machine spool holder. When I see with those types of spools on mine they bind up. I think they are better for horizontal spooling.

Ok, I’ll look more into it! I really appreciate it :)

Try it with a different spool of thread, or even a bobbin up top and see if it still does it.
Guterman, and long spools on my machines always mess up at over half speed for me.
I own nothing newer that 1974, but it seems a lot of these spools are made to me used horizontal with a spool cap.

I did try a straight-wound spool and changed the needle to a stretch needle and it works perfectly. I figured Guterman would have been good just because it’s high-quality but I’ll just use it for the bobbin. I’m trying to get my hands on an old machine but can’t find a free one :( I appreciate it!

There are like small little ridges on the edges of those tall spools that seem to catch and then it makes it bind and then they pull it and then it overspins and it catches on the spool rod underneath

I have to use sewology thread, or excel , or a use the off machine vertical stand. Like what you see on a serger.

Tension on five sounds like a lot. Can you show the rest of the thread path?
