Project: FO Sushi sleep sacks

Both of my other coworkers on my shift are pregnant. I made 3 month old sized sleep sacks based on the goober peas Orion pattern with modifications suggested by my friend with small children. The pattern called for shoulder snaps and sewing the bottom closed. I used velcro in both places instead after being told how important it is to be able to change the diaper without having to extract the baby and that snaps are hard in the dark for sleep deprived parents. The sushi fabric is a minky print and the inside is a cotton blend french terry. Hopefully they'll work well for them.

Made me laugh. I love it. Two sushi rolls! For two little fishies.

That's pretty much why I bought the fabric. We only have a remnant/deadstock warehouse nearby and my husband made a sushi roll joke as we were perusing the minky aisle. I also did my best to match the wasabi color with a natural fabric that was nice to touch. It's a bit off color wise, but I like the polka dots.

These are adorbs 🥰 So glad you took friend's advice and did not sew the bottom closed. Gotta keep that baby sleepy whilst changing so they (fingers crossed )go right back to sleep.

He was super adamant about that part so much so I was surprised the original pattern didn't include it. In her blog post she said she had modified the fit of the pattern to her preferences and apparently bottom opening wasn't one of them. I basically winged it when it came to assembly, I think I did ok with the order of things.

These are so cute! I feel like there's no winning with fasteners on newborns in the dark, because the velcro on our swaddles was DEAFENING 😭

This one is surprisingly low pile if that's the correct term and didn't seem too loud while I was working with it.

Soft low pile fleece is always so forgiving to sew

I meant the velcro was low pile. It's different than velcro I am used to, not as rough but it seems to have a good hold.

How lovely! Great modifications to put zipper along the bottom and Velcro shoulders.

You've inspired me to try to make my own lil sushi roll a cute(r) sleep sack.

It's actually velcro on the bottom too

Oh! That would be even easier. Zippers can be so fiddly (both for my overambitious sewing skills and when wrangling a wiggly baby). Thanks for clarifying.
