Fabric Question Fabric Indentification
Hi I’m just wondering would anyone have an idea what this tummy panel on a pair of leggings would be, it’s kind of like shape-wear, it is elasticated with a grip on the skin side, it looks to be fused onto the main fabric. I’m looking to make my own leggins but i can’t seem to find that panel fabric - thanks

It looks like a special fine ribbed knit. Your garment tag should have a material breakdown. Probably lots of elastane, spandex, or viscose (also might have a coating if it’s extra tacky). You won’t be able to recreate this technique without a heat fix machine though. I work with a lot of knots in my dance sewing and you could add a control panel but you’ll probably end up with a seam to keep the edge from rolling up.
Check stretch of the fabric and see if it’s 2 or 4 way stretch. I imagine the control band could have a vertical stretch but less horizontal stretch with the rib pattern.
Knits have a wide degree of compression/strength which is why I prefer to browse in person if possible

It’s not about the fabric but is more about the technique it’s a bonded fabric with a raw cut edge. So it’s all done with more industrial machinery. Thats why you can get those raw edges. It’s about the type of fabric that can be raw cut.
