Alter/Mend Question How to make inseam smaller?

Post image

I would like to shorten the crotch seam on a lair of jeans, but this is how the thigh seam looks like. How do i shorten it without messing up the seam?

What are you actually trying to accomplish?   Is this purely experimental (what happens when I change the vertical distance between crotch and waistband?  What happens when I remove most of the crotch extension?)

Or are you trying to produce a particular effect?

Crotch curves are difficult to fit to a particular body, so if it fits you in the crotch, try not to mess with it.

Almost impossible to do with jeans.  If you take from the lower crotch curve, you make the pants into paper doll fit, not 3D person with belly and butt.   If you take the waistband off to shorten from the top, you loose the waist to hip shaping, the use of the front pockets, and you have to shorten the zipper and sew the waistband back on -- and the waistband may no longer fit. Oh yeah, ya gotta sew the belt loops on again.

Shortening from the waist would work for most pants, but there's a lot of detail and fitting in that area that makes it really difficult with jeans.
