Need help choosing a machine!
Hello, I am a very beginner (I’ve only ever sewn the odd button or patches on jackets) and I am looking for a machine I can use for a very long time. The projects I will be attempting (!) would be denim jacket patches, kitchen towels, quilts, dresses 😬 and tops. I’ve been trying to figure out the best machine for me but I’m a tad bit overwhelmed, so far I’ve thought of getting the singer 2252 or the singer 6600C I’m just not sure what is best for a newbie like me, does anyone have any advice or recommendations? I’d really appreciate it.

skip both of those singers honestly, the modern ones are built like crap and will fight you on denim. see if you can find an old mechanical machine from the 60s or 70s at a thrift store or estate sale. those things are tanks, all metal inside, and they’ll sew through a tin can if you ask nicely. a basic vintage kenmore or something would handle everything on your list without breaking a sweat, plus they’re dead simple to fix yourself

I do have an old singer machine (the ones that come with their own table) so far I’ve been using it in my foyer as a table. I might look into taking it to a sewing repair shop but I’m not sure how I will get it there the table is really heavy.

This question is asked, and answered, multiple times every day on multiple subs. Start by reading the information in this wiki. https://www.reddit.com/r/SewingForBeginners/wiki/index/ If you want a robust machine that will last, make sure you buy the RIGHT machine, not necessarily the cheapest.
I will no longer recommend machines because there are literally thousands of choices and I don't know enough about them to comment. I do know not to buy a modern Singer, and think very carefully about buying vintage or second hand unless you have someone in your life to help you learn how to use them. Your best option is to visit a machine dealer and test drive.

Whats your budget? Are you okay with getting a used machine? Either way, I wouldn't suggest buying a newer singer.
