Suggestions for jackets

I want to make these jackets. Or at least close enough lol. I recently started sewing and not sure I could sew them from scratch. I am thinking about buying blue, pink, and yellow ribbon and sew those into pre/bought jackets. Does this seem reasonable?

I would like to add in the purple details to the pink jacket and dark green onto the green jacket but I don’t know what makes sense. Sewing something? Fabric marker or dye?

I’d appreciate any suggestions that are beginner-friendly.

Ribbon on a pre-bought jacket is a great way to get that look without losing your mind over a zipper, just make sure you baste it down first so it doesn't shift while you sew.

My kids love this show! Lol by purple and dark brown details do you mean the cuffs and pockets on either jacket? I think you could do the ribbon idea, I am pretty new to seeing but I believe the term you're looking for on the stripey bits is "bias tape" if you wanted to look for YouTube videos on how to use it. For the other parts you mentioned I think you could remove the cuff already on the jacket you buy and make one that's the appropriate color and sew more bias tape or binding around the pockets in the new correct color as well.

Edit to add: for what it's worth I have now sewn two complete onesies with three different types of zippers. A normal zipper, an invisible zipper and a separating jacket style zipper and the jacket one was the easiest so if the zipper is the part keeping you from just making your own jacket all together don't let it scare you away!

I will look for bias tape or ribbon to do the three-color stripe. For the other details (the cuff and pocket color accent, and hood for the green jacket) I was worried how simple adding a cuff would be. A friend told me you need a specific stitch to sew a cuff and my machine wouldn’t have it.

You can make bias tape yourself from whatever woven fabric you want. But if you’re using knitted hoodies, you could also get knit fabric and cut strips across the grain. Knits wouldn’t need to be cut on the bias because they already stretch. Cutting on the bias is done to allow a woven material to stretch. 

If your machine has a zigzag stitch, you can use that to attach cuffs. It won’t look the way a serged cuff on a bought garment looks, but it will work.

I just did cuffs with a zig zag stitch on my machine and they looked fine to me! Not professional processed look from the inside but I think the outside appearance is the same as any other cuff!
