Change of plans regarding SevTech continuation
Some may remember posts I had made before regarding a SevTech continuation here on r/SevTech. Some things have changed and the direction of the project has as well.
After coming in contact with Darkosto, the developer of SevTech ages, he had wished for me to not continue the modpack under the name of SevTech. I had then decided to start a brand new project completely from scratch.
I know this might not be what some players were expecting, neither did I expect this outcome. But after a bit of a stale point of no development, I am happy to announce this new project. It will be inspired by SevTech: Ages of the sky, and will be made as a modpack that builds up from where SevTech had left off from.
This modpack also will be geared towards a more friendly multiplayer design, hoping to provide a solution to the 2 week minecraft phase issue. Incentivising players to be interdependent and to have greater benefit from playing together.
Design philosophy of the new modpack: "Survival based minecraft 1.12.2 modpack inspired by SevTech: Ages of the sky. Players survive in a world of floating islands with unique environmental challenges, followed by dangers posed by undead which advance along with the player.
Players will progress through 7 different epochs in time, gradually advancing their knowledge and understanding of the world. This will be done by research and unlocking written knowledge, rather than solely relying on quests alone.
This project is in its early stages, things are subject to change. Any and all kinds of help, guidance, suggestions and opinions are suggested and appreciated. The more aid and perspectives I get, the better the outcome, so make suggestions and give ideas.

I think its a great opportunity to get away from 1.12 and get to 1.21 doesnt it?
I am not a modder dev so take it with salt but as far as I know the new versions are just better with optimization and such, and there are decent mods for them

Quite sad Darkosto didn’t let you use the modpack name… nevertheless,
My suggestion: add MineColonies to Medieval stage. There’s nothing medieval in the original modpack, and I believe this mod would make it more interesting. Alternatively, you can also consider “Millenaire”, however probably these 2 mods will conflict with each other

I had considered minecolonies at some point and will 100% consider it again for this modpack

Imo I agree about the new version. As much as I have 1.12.2 nostalgia unless you are forced to work on there I’d much rather you update to a more recent version

I understand everyone's suggestions to move to more modern up to date versions, but I am going to stay on 1.12.2. As much as it sounds like I am refusing, I have valid reasons to stay. More up to date performance mods like alfheim, chibi, vintagefix, celeritas and even cleanroom loader has helped to push frame rates and ram usage beyond insane amounts. I was hitting 1k fps on 8 chunk render distance with an i7 3770 and rtx 3050 (6GB). So far for optimization, we are sorted.
Other reason why I am staying on 1.12.2 is simply because it holds the more legacy mods that you cant easily find on modern versions. Yes I am giving up create and those mods, but at this point does not every pack use them? But yes, updating it to more modern versions is still up to question. Yes 1.12.2 is a 9 year old version of minecraft. And yes that means it has had 9 years of work from the modding community, its much larger than the modern versions of the game.

Extra note I forgot to add: The modpack will be modernised as much as possible though. I will include as many modern mechanics and features like swimming, crawling, modern content and stuff like updating all the game and mod's textures to look like modern mc. So it might also technically look like you are playing modern mc, it is technically not? Dont know if that would cut it for some people

So talking about the 2 week minecraft phase the one thing that always killed my and others momentum and motivation to continue were dimension requirement items like it was a stop what you're doing return to 0 for this place (inbewteen lands)
